Step 1: push out the clips holding the black and clear plastic surrounds



Step 2: Lift out the black plastic cluster piece



Step 3: use a screwdriver to prize off each of the tabs that hold the rear white plastic cover



Step 4: each gauge is held on place by 2 metal tabs, bend all 8 of them straight, then you can gently push the gauges out the front of the cluster. There are pins that join the gauge actuators to the main circuit board, which should just slide out when you push the gauges forwards.



Step 5: unclip this white tab to remove the main circuit board



Finished. Easy.

Thanks heaps for putting this up! Will come in handy soon - I'm going to attempt to replace the green illumination with some white I've heard that you can get rid of the green film over the numbers etc with nail polish, does this sound right to you? I've also heard of people sanding the green off

Yep nail polish will do the job just fine!
I then used a red Sharpie to paint where it was green and it came out pretty decent, would be good to see what it turns out like bright white.
Make sure you post it up when you do the DIY!

I'll post up my full build thread when I do it I'm doing a fair bit to my GenIII.

Do you think I should colour the plastic bits white somehow once I get rid of the green? Or will it be fine just leaving it clear and changing the lights to white LEDs

Yeah it might be a good idea but youll need something that will allow enough light to pass through it, you might be able to get away with just using bright white LEDs, unless you want to go another colour.
I would change mine to white but really cant be ****** at the moment..

Theres a good website for LEDs been posted up here a fair bit recently, superbrightleds.com or something like that, if not morgan or chris (SAV84C) might know of a local Sydney bloke who sells quality LEDs for pretty cheap. My advice would be dont buy from eBay, from my experience they are not very good quality and some will make hotspots, but im sure youll work something out..

I bought led's from superbrightleds and they are choice! I put them into the gauge rings on my b4 cluster and they look great.

Heres what mine looks like, white face dials, with white leds from superbrightleds.com, just you will have to buy a few spares as mine tend to last only about 3 months before they start failing (heat causes them to start failing)

Anyone know how to make it more even? I am trying to do a mates GENII dash but don't like how the LEDS make it look patchy like the above picture?

Read in one of the post on how to change dash lights that you break white tabs off or something, but could not find any post that tells you what bits?

SMD leds as they spread the light evenly and are more powerful

I know I'm a little late to say something, but there's a guy on ebay that sells SMD led's to fit straight into the back of the cluster. Check it out.
