So decided to change my belts after seeing they were cracked..... Don't know if you can see it well enough!



I know this is a pretty easy job, But thought I would just post it up anyway as the DIY section is very small here!

Items needed:

1 x 5PK877 belt Power Steering & Alternator

1 x 4PK885 belt Air-Con & Idler Pulley

Socket set - (Sorry I have forgotten which sizes are needed)


Step 1: You open the bonnet to a site like this.



Step 2: You then have to undo the bolts holding the belt cover on. Which I have circeled in red, and loosen the Alternator bolt in yellow to be able to take it off



Step 3: You then need to Loosen the lock nut marked ( A ), Then loosen the slider bolt ( B ). Once it is loose enough you will be able to take the belt off



Step 4: Then if you are in need of doing the Aircon belt at the same time you need to Loosen the lock nut marked ( A ), and loosen off the slider bolt ( B ).



Step 5: To take the A/C belt off you will need to undo the 2 bolts at the top. And take the whole A/C tensioner off.



Step 6: Then clean up your pulleys and attach the new belts with some elbow grease, trying not to damage the grooves on the belt. And tighten the slider bolts in reverse order.

And then test the tension of the belts and adjust accordingly.

Belt Tension:
P/S & ALT belt needs to be 7-9mm
A/C & I/P belt needs to be 7.5-8.5mm

Good write up nice and simple. All I can add is check the pulleys spin freely


These DIY's are awesome. Looks like everything is covered for doing a pretty decent service yourself, oils, brakes, Coolants, and belts.

Good write up, and with pics too..

You dont need to take the A/C belt tensioner assembly off to change the belt.

And you might add that in order to loosen the Alternator you have to slightly loosen the pivot side 12mm headed bolt on the right hand side. This will let the alternator drop down and make it easier

Also most Bosch belts are in 5mm increments. So the most common one which is in stock is 5pk875 and 4pk895

Has anyone had issues with power steer noise after doing this?

Was going to say maybe you over tightened it. Or too loose and its slipping.

noisy (slipping) belt - too loose.

noisy bearings - too tight, and maybe too late.

I sometimes (usually when cold) have a belt that screeches just after the car is started for ~5 seconds. Happens intermittently and only when the car is started. Which belt is it likely to be?

Does it chirp when the AC cycles on ?  If not, then the other belt.
