Finally i have done it... i lashed out and got some headers from E bay...

just wanting to know if you guys have had good experiences, IE in terms of price, shipping, delivery, fitting, sound etc etc...


they say the delivery time should be sometime between 7 and 11 September...

so not so long to wait

I know of at least half a dozen guys with them and no ones ever had any issues, probably know of a dozen others who have them as well and I've never heard of any problems.

i have read from time to time that sometimes they need to be bent to make them fit?? is this right??

Maybe, you won't really know until you try.

Everyones thoughts are different on them. I like the sound and that's about it. I feel like my car drove better with the Stock headers but that could just be me.

No way I would have paid $350 for em aswell, but im patient. Ended up getting mine for less then a 1/3 of what you paid brand new, actually sold mine for more then what I paid

Go to Subaru and get some new gaskets too.

A week after installing my Borla headers, they fractured.

Got the leak sealed, but exhaust shop reckons it'll come back within a month or two.

Other then that my exhaust sounds great with them on.

hmm that sucks about the cracks...

and as far as price... in WA if i waited till i found a secondhand pair i'd be putting em on the car for my son... (who isnt even a twinkle yet)...

so i guess i wont complain about the price... just wait anxiously for them to arrive... hahah

i thought my car drove better before i put the cat back on too actually... but she needs a service and a tune up... which i am doing directly after the headers go on... no point in tuning the car and then changing the setup....

Hate to burst your bubble. But Unless you have an aftermarket ECU you won't be doing much tuning.

no bubble to burst... i simply mean a standard tune up.. cause it seems to be running rich and sluggish...

what i meant by changing the setup, still would apply surely?? change something and the system would know.??

Think the word your looking for is "Service".

If its running rich then it'll be a blocked filter or knacker o2 sensor. Could also be a leak in the exhaust.

how does that differ from the good old fashion tune up?? she is getting the dreadedly expensive 250k service done soon...

cant a mechanic plug it into a machine and diagnose whats wrong??

shouldnt be an exhaust leak... its only just had a new one done and it ran that way with the stock one one... i am getting more from a tank but...

A good old fashion tune up was adjusting the ignition timing, jets on the carby, and the gap between your points.


You can clean or replace the o2 sensor and the AFM if you have one.

Yeah you can plug a diagnostic thing in and check codes. And reset the ECU. You can also plug in the plugs and read the error codes.

But That's just a service.

What about an ECUflash or tuning the stock ecu?
I'm talking to a guy at the moment that reckons he can get a 10% increase in fuel economy and up to 20% increase in peak power and midrange torque on my car. (whether I want to or not I don't know yet).
He told me he gives all customers a 1 month gaurantee, where if your not happy with it, he'll either remap the ecu or flash it back to stock.

I've seen on RSLC someone had a H6 outback they were getting a tune map made up for, but it didn't seem straight forward. Luke (Bobbyjimmy) tried to use an ECU from the US but that wouldn't work.

Ah ok. Wouldn't know much about it, was just talking to a local bloke who'd just re mapped his fox XT and said he might be able to do it to my 2.5 and my mates 3.0r b-spec. Costs a couple hundred...

so they have gone on... sound great, no more bog down off the line... no drone on highway or anything!

but i had a thought today... the exhaust guy didn't put the 02 sensor on... what is this going to do to my car, economy etc etc... there is no CEL on or anything...

just to chime in, Subi ECU's are actually quite flexible.. obviously not as good as an aftermarket setup, but minor changes can be done pretty easily

The OBDII compliant Subaru ECU's are better then an aftermarket ECU for 99% of applications.
