So lads, after a little bit of thought, I have decided I will be converting the outbacks NA engine into a turbocharged engine in the next month or so if it goes to plan.

I have spoken to Ben from Ichiban about a halfcut he is getting from Japan, it's an 04 wrx cut.
I think I will go with this option rather than an Sti engine and 6 speed gearbox, because of price....as much as id love to.


Could anyone suggest any decent workshops that would be able to do the conversion?
What kind of price would I be looking at for labour?
What else will I need to do, other than replace engine, gearbox, etc etc?
What time frame will I be looking at? Could I get it done in a couple of days?
What sort of power figure will I be looking at when completed?


And if anyone has any other suggestions or advice for me that would be muchly appreciated!!!

how much is the cut? have you thought about saving the money just buying a wrx?

power figure for a stock 04 wrx will only be around 130kw atw stock.

we ( ICHIBan) are opening our sister company NEOGarage soon to carry out conversions or any work. we will also be offering flash tuning so i wouldnt be worried about the power output

stock wrx = 169kw at the flywheel with 25-30% driveline loss = 120-130kw atw

Yeah Alex, have thought about it.
Thought about selling and buying an rx7, thought about buying a newer car...
I'm happy with my car, but the only thing it's missing is a turbo engine.
I know I'm not going to get back what I spend, but fcuk it, we're gonna die soon, so I may as well have some fun on the way.

I really enjoy driving my outback, and have enjoyed doing all the smaller mods to it.
Now for something a bit more interesting.


I will be putting my bike up for sale too, don't get to ride it as much as id like, so there is a little more extra coin, plus a sweet little bonus from work today.

Ben, I can't wait.
How long until you guys are opening the workshop? In the next couple months?

just waiting on paperwork mate, we already have the premesis and are moving on the 19th, once all the paperwork is returned we're good to go.

Yeah mate may as well a a backup. I'm keen to see what Ben can do for me though.
Obviously price will be priority.

Anyone car slap an engine into a car and get it running.

It takes a skilled and talented individual to take their time, in doing a job correctly, and doing it correctly first time.

So that there's no dramas further down the track. And believe me, there will be dramas with a cheap and cheerful conversion.


May I recommend Ben. He was an immense help with my last lot of work on the redsled, and his quality, experience, and attention to detail is terrific.

Give NeoGarage a high consideration.

Yeah, definitely will be giving Ben, ichiban and neogarage a good bit of my time.
I do want to do it properly first, as this vehicle is my "pride and joy".

thanks for the kind words alex. Sam your more than welcome to come down and take a look at some of the cars ive built ( for myself) i always carry out work to the highest standard, we will also be markting stainless steel bolt kits for engine bays and anyone carrying out an engine conversion with neo will only bay for the price of the bolts, not any associated labour to fit them.

I would be really interested in an Sti engine though, not just a wrx.

So, have got around $10k to spend, so have told Ben I'm ready to start the conversion.
I will be getting him to put the engine and gearbox in, new clutch kit, and a delift (if he has the parts at the time)
A new 3" turbo back exhaust.
A td05 18g turbo upgrade.
Tune.
Boost gauge.

I was even thinking of going front mount?
Hopefully, if bens ready, I will be transporting the car down to Sydney on a float and then flying down 2 weeks later and picking up the vehicle.

I seriously cannot wait. !
Also, scrapped the idea of doing the rest of the car in vinyl wrap. It looked tacky, and I will be getting a full custom respray.

So I've just paid for the cut, as soon as neogarage is opens, the conversion will begin.

In other news I just bought a set of Rota Grids 18x9.5 +38 in white.
Will be using my brand new 235/40r18 tyres!!
Will be here tomorrow morning
