I was on the way home from school today, and i heard a sound. It sounded somewhat like metal on metal. I thought it was the exhaust scraping on the ground, and thats as similar as i can describe the sound. It was quite loud, and definately my car.

As to when the sound was happening, I was in stop/start traffic, and it happened only when i took off, so at slow speeds only, but kept happening when the clutch was fully out; so im thinking it isnt that.

I pulled up after a few minutes to see what it was, and couldnt see anything, no exhaust hanging, nothing different. When i got back in the car, it stopped. Didnt happen again the whole way home.

Has anyone experienced this? Should i be worried?

Could've been a rock in the brakes. Had this before, scared the shit outta me. Pulled wheel off, saw nothing, replaced wheel. Went and snowboarded for the day, and came back and the problem had fixed itself.

Does the noise change when you apply the brakes?

If so, look for metal dust on the brake calipers.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Makes sense i suppose.

Was happening when brake was off, so it must've been a big ass rock.
Will update if it happens again.

If i recall correctly, no it didnt, but i was in a stop/start school zone, would have only got up to 20ks/hr.

Its not happening anymore so i cant test. Ill go check now for metal dust.

My first thought was rock in the brakes too.

I had the same problem in the RX and dad in the WRX.
