Hey all.

Im sick of looking and my boring cluster every day espically at night cause of the green color. The jap spec gen3's clusters only went to 180kmh compared with our 220kmh and the ones that black out rev to 7000rpm compared with our 6000rpm. Like these two

What I want to know is would either of these clusters work in my gen3 outback. Would the second one only rev to 6000 etc. And would the first one if I ever got it to and over 180 would the stick just keep going. Hope people get my drift here. Or is there no point in worrying.

Cheers
Chris

You could try something like this with some LED bulbs behind perhaps?

I put red LEDs behind mine and get a nice red glow even though the stock dials.
Looks better than this, was hard to get a picture

I found these bulbs gave the best result.

Yeah they do look alright. Is it just a matter of changing the bulbs in the back of the cluster. Cause I heard that the numbers have a greenish paint on them.

Yeah its only the bulbs in the back, I have a lib with an outback dash and the globes had a light green casing over them so they should just be clear. Ive got my old lib cluster in the shed so ill have a proper look.

The forester dash also has a green coating to the numbers, DO NOT try and sand it off, someone on ozfoz did theirs and ruined it.
If you get good LEDs, you won't even notice the green unless you get white LEDs.

Ahh ok then. Are the bulbs just the same as number plate ones? I think T10's/wedge.

Yep T10, there's only 4-6 of them.
I found through buying different types that the ones I posted before, are the best for red output.

Their listed as t10 smd some have ranging from 1-10 of those little globe things the ones i used have 5.

And i used a blue globe on the fascia plate and it came through blue so i guess there bright enough to eliminate that shit stock green :)

Yeh I get a really nice red glow with mine, all the way up the needles as well.
there is only 1 hot spot, but it's not as bad as some I've seen.
Don't bother changing the warning lights with LEDs, it can stuff up the display as some warning lights need a certain resistance from the bulb. Strange, yes, I know.
