So as some may know the water pump on my EJ25D has decided to leak, serves me right for not resealing it regardless white it was out. Anyway ive got a few options now; aftermarket gasket, oem gasket or I have read of people using RTV/Silicon in place of a gasket. Whats the best route?

New pump and gasket?

If you use RTV/silicon I will hunt you down.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Do it once, so it right. It's a pain in the a$$ already to have to go back and do it
New pump and gasket and then "forget about it"

If you struggle to get another gasket, then a bit of gasket cement on the old gasket (as long as it isn't damaged) should do the trick too.

Agree - replace the pump as well as the gasket - the pump is only 115 bucks from memory. Yes I know its a pain, but its generally good practice to replace them every hundred thou, I thought I'd get away with it and then the very next service after the 100 thou it needed replacing. Save up and get it.

Cheers,

Ben

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.
