Hi guys so I have been reading about turbo timers and how they are better for some cars and whatnot, Is it worth it since I own a 2006 wrx, Iv heard they are used for the late 90 models not so much these days with new technology? Is it worth it or just a waste of money? cheers

Waste of cash dude. Just drive sedately for your last 5 minutes of your trip to cool things down if you've been giving it some welly.

Most people install them to be the coolest kid in the Maccas car park.

Yep, waste of money. Check out the mighty car mods video on turbo timers. Just dont boost around your home and she'll be right.

Unless your turbo is old school and not water cooled you dont need one.

Have you put any more thought into squeezing some more power out of the engine. Like strapping on one of those intake fans

Yep, not needed at all, especially with the subaru coolant system, as it allows water circulation to the turbo even with the engine turned off.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

My first turbo car is the B4. Keep boost low for the last 1-2km and just idle for 10 to 20 seconds before leaving the car..sometimes if the radiator fan comes on, i wait until it stops.usually that's another 10 to 20 seconds.

Luckily my Brant alarm was removed and replaced with Mongoose M80 alarm which has turbo timer inbuilt as an option but i hardly use it cos it goes for a whole minute... i just let it cool for about 20 seconds before i switch it off and she's all good :)

I have one...

Only because it's part of my alarm haha.

Don't use it often though.

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

They do nothing. It is also an offence to leave your car running unattended.

Your turbo is lubricated with small amount of oil and cooled by a large amount of coolant. If it was cooled by the oil, It would be necessary to prevent the oil burning in the turbo.
You can turn your car off after giving it a thrashing and it would be the same as if it's just been turned off after a slow trip to the shops.

Spend your money and waste your effort/time on something else.

Cooling down a car isn't necessary. Warming it up is.

At a cold start, Drive your car gently with low load for at least 15 minutes before giving it the beans.
