Hey guys, im looking for new rims for my gen 2 rx liberty and i was wondering if 17x8 would fit with no problems, also what does the offset mean and what would the offset have to be for these rims to fit? Thanks

17 x 8 +45 would be a nice size.

I have run 18 x 8.5 +45 and 17 x 8.5 +40 and 17 x 8 +45 on my previous Gen2.

You will need rear camber bolts and rolled rear guards.

Youll need to have negative camber in the rear so that the wheels fit. Camber bolts are the easiest way to do this in the rear

Also depends on the tyre width you want to run.

Rolling rear guards, up to $100 for the pair.

only fronts run camber bolts standard. whiteline sell them for around $60-$70

215/45/17 is the size for gen 2.

Yeh i have 17x7 with that tyre size but i assumed that if i was going 8 then id need wider tyres?
In fact if its going to be the same tyre size then it wont look wider so really there is no point in going 8?

Also to answer your q about offset. It's the measurement across the width of the wheel from the mounting face (part that touches your hub) to the centre of the width. You need to ensure your offset is correct on new wheels.

Positive offset means the wheel is further inset than zero by X mm so a +45 is 45mm closer to the centre of the car than the guard, negative offset is of course the opposite. Would run a 225 or ideally a 235 on an 8" wide rim though you could always go larger still if you pleased.

Would you have to roll the front aswell? Like for turning or not?

Couldn't hurt. I run 17x7.5 +32 with a 215/45 and I have all my guards rolled. Still get some scrubbing but it's cos it's a bit too low

Good luck with a 235 on a Gen2.

Do you have coilovers? You wont get enough negative camber in the fronts on oem camber bolts for 235's.

Id go 225 max but again, a lot is based around offset.

Find some wheels you like and post up specs here. Then we can give advice based on actual specs.

okay so im back because im still not sure about offset i understand what it means but atm i have the 2004 jdm wrx rims, and they are i beleive from this thread 17x7 5x100 with a 55 offset, is the offset in mm? and if the number is smaller would the wheels come out wider like towards the edge of the guard more? or would they be further in? im looking at some rims but the highest offset is 35, theyre 17x7 5x100 +35 would they fit without protruding feomg the guards also without rubbing, car is standard hieght, but may think about lowering a little, far off into the future but do you guys think i can fit 35 offset with no trouble

Yes, the lower the offset, the closer to the guards the rim will be measured in millimetre's.

ie, if you have a +55 and are looking at a +35 in the same width, the +35 will be 20mm closer to the guard than your current rims.
