Is smoking brake lights illegal? I just bought some of that vht niteshades lens paint and was planning to smoke my brake and reverse lights but I don't want to get defected. I am only planing on doing 1 or 2 coats just to get the bright red reflector in the brake light a little bit darker and to clean the back of my car up.

There has to be a certain amount of light from your lights or it has to be visible from 200M or something like that. So you could technically do a small amount but its really not worth the risk

I know that in NSW it is illegal, but it would be best to check the rules in South Australia to get a definite answer. You wouldn't wanna pay a pointless fine.

May be something on this page can clear things up for you. I just did a quick search and haven't read anything so it may take a bit more looking.

Illegal so please don't do it.

It doesn't look so cool when you are getting a defect or when someone rear ends you because they couldn't see the taillights properly.

Certainly illegal. Cops these days are on the look out for it. Defect is the least of your worries. Insurance companies have been known to deny insurance claims over such things.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

Theres a reason it says "for off road use only".

It can be done tastefully but yes, it is illegal.

Seems to be legal if you drive a Commo.

(No offence to commodore owners)

Excuse the average photo/crap phone lens but I did mine fairly lightly with the rustoleum stuff and have never had a problem. Lights still shine through fine. Just don't clean them with metho to prep haha

Are the B4 taillights lights the same shade as the lower models?

Asian car = Asian noodles perhaps? Either way....... as stupid as permanently tinting taillights with Night Shades or similar.

If you want to tint, use vinyl wrap tint. Easy to remove when you get over the look or pulled over by the cops.
