It may have been said multiple times over the years but models and compound quality change. I am in need of new tyres for my wagon and will be buying these tyres for my new STi rims which are apparently half an inch wider than my OEM SpecB rims. The following quotes are for tyres in 215/45 R18, except the last two on the list which are 225/45 R18.

I've been quoted the following for tyres from Tyres For Less in Fairfield East (via eBay):

These from Tempe Tyres:

Otherwise Bridgestone Select in Mascot have the following:

A part of me tells me to spend the extra couple of hundred for the S001s, but then I won't be eating lunch for the next few weeks... What do I do and what are your experiences? Do you know of any places that stock the above for a cheaper price?

Thanks guys.

It may have been said multiple times over the years but models and compound quality change. I am in need of new tyres for my wagon and will be buying these tyres for my new STi rims which are apparently seven inches wider than my OEM SpecB rims.

I'm interested in seeing these 14 inch wide wheels

But I would like to know what the point of buying all these fancy sti parts is if you're connecting them to the ground with ningnong bob jane spec tyres

Just saw this on Facebook: "the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten".

Sorry, I was thinking too quickly. Fixed.

I see where you're coming from. I had money to spare at that time, now not so much. :P

How quickly do you need to replace your current tyres?

Front left has gone through to the fibres on the inside of tyre (I think I've got an issue with my shock that I'll be fixing/replacing) and two others are hitting the tread-wear indicators. I am trying to synchronise all of the work that I need to be done at once to save on labour costs and alignments as well which include,

  • Fixing/replacing shock
  • Replacing springs with STi pinks
  • Tyres for STi rims so they can be fitted
  • Wheel balancing
  • Wheel alignment

If I can get it done at the same time I'll be saving a few hundred. The sooner the better.

Could also be a worn bush or something. Mine is chewing up the insides on both fronts. But I'm putting it down to the wheel alignment/camber wear and my driving style. lol. The buy 3 get one free deal is very appealing for Bridgestone at the moment. I couldn't find anything I liked for less than $200 a corner.

I'd go S001s. Forget fitting the springs for a while, and get the shock looked at.

Have to agree with Nick and say skimping on tyres is crazy, especially with wet weather.

You'll also find that right now your car is probably not insurable if you get in a fender bender.

Go the S001s, take the financial hit, be wiser with your budget next time.

The STi springs are nowhere near as low as the RS-R springs I've got on there now. I want to change them to improve comfort and to assist in decreasing wear on shocks and tyres as well as getting rid of them to help get some money back.

Noted. I have always been a believer in not being a tight arse when it comes to tyres, but the reality is the hit it takes on your pocket straight away.

I've been wise with my budget since getting serious about it about a month ago. All up I'm spending about $1,380 to get suspension and tyres done (including labour and a service), and I'm making about $690 in selling parts. It's just the initial hit to the wallet and the fact that I've got to spend money removing stuff in order to sell it.

Thanks for your post though. I'm definitely striving for the S001.

That's another thing that sprung to mind, but luckily I've got Whiteline bushings ready that I bought years ago so if that's the case then I can rectify that issue as well. I'll get it checked out when the car is on the hoist at ICHIban.

For the extra $200 or so $$ S001 is my pick.

Worn inner tyre, sounds like incorrect toe.

Thanks Mark.

The wear on the inside of the tyre is only occurring on the passenger-side tyre though. The driver-side one is evenly wearing if I remember correctly.

I've got S001s on now
215/45 on an 8" wheel

They are worn down also pretty badly on the inside, but all around low and definitely need changing
but they still stick to the road like chewing gum, and I'll be replacing them with the same
Or maybe going to a 225 (more common size is cheaper as far as I'm aware)

I'm honestly not even going to bother looking at anything else

Maybe consider some kumho or Hankook...some decent tyres at about $200 a corner...

I can get the KU31's for $144 as well, another tyre I didn't add to the list in my post. If I was to spend $800 on Kumho or Hankook, I'd prefer going for the Bridgestone.

Thanks for your input.

I emailed the guys at Bridgestone Select in Mascot and he told me that if I was to go for 225/45 R18 instead of 215/45 R18, they'd end up being more expensive. He didn't give any reasons but I am assuming it's because there is more rubber.

If I were you, I'd get re003's

A lot better than the S001? It's an extra $75 at the end of the day when I'm already spending $765 if I was to go for the S001.

or lower control arm mount...

Might be. I'll get it all checked out. Thanks mate.

The 215s look great on an 8"
Square it up nicely, I was only gonna go 225 because I was under the impression they were cheaper because they were a more common size
