The Silver Surfer - Gen Dos Manuel wagon

Some of you may remember the Silver gx wagon that Doug bought with the plans to part out late last year? Well this is it.

The story starts in February, just before I was to head back to Uni, so I thought it would be a great time to buy another car. Now this car was almost the definition of a ‘Fixer-upper’, not so much mechanically, but cosmetically. It had contracted paint aids, in a bad way.

So why on earth did I buy it you ask? I had been wanting a car other than my daily, that I could pull apart and play with (for learning purposes) without the fear of being stranded without a car after making a mistake, so this, coupled with the price and the goodies it possessed, I had to have it.

The day it was returned to its temporary home

And the aids I spoke of

The bonnet has since been disposed of

A little bit about the car :

Body

350k kms, full service history, with belt and pump recently done.
Rx front bar and foglight’s (Currently blue)

After market roof racks removed

JDM Projectors (curtesy of Barbachello)

Engine

New NGK plugs

UEC clean (Minimal smoke, must have done something wrong haha)

Nulon full Synth 10w-40

Rocker cover gaskets replaced with OEM units

Diff back unknown exhaust

Suspension & Handling

4 pot front brakes

Bendix General GT pads

RDA slotted and dibbled rotors

New Pedders Sports Ryder springs and struts all round

Interior

Cream leather interior with electric front seat (Unsure if JDM Sweg or not)

Its quite a small list, and quite a boring one, but it is a place to start anyway. I was going to place a wish list/to do list up in the build, but I feel it would be far to long.

I began my search for parts, and soon discovered how amazing 'Pull it yourself' wreckers are. I managed to score two guards and a bonnet from a Silver GX sedan that were in good condition for the most part. Unfortunately I completely forgot to take photos of the whole process. (I will insert some here next week)

Next purchase was a set of JDM projectors from Barbachello, gave them a quick polish and threw them on.

Last weekend was time for Rocker covers, something I had avoided doing without an experienced person present as I didn't want to make a mistake. Soon realised it was easy as fork as I was finished in around an hour, including cleaning the covers.

Before a dose of degreaser

After a decent soak

And the life left in the gasket

Also picked up a GT wing, which will cop helping of paint when the car goes in for the front bar, and roof respray

Anyway, torqued to spec is just the manuals way of saying 'we couldn't get it any tighter, see if you can'.

Nice. :)

Looks very straight actually. Good to pull your own car apart and learn.

The body work is immaculate in terms of being straigh. Just has a case of the peels. I'll grab an updated photo this weekend

Those wheels with a fresh coat of paint will be so so nice.

As soon as she hands it to you, slowly take of your pants, then, while staring her straight in the eyes rub it against the tip of you penis, while continuing your painfully intense gaze whisper to her;

"My eye is watering, this might be a bit hot"

I should just convert to single, right?

I'm not a fan of the wheels. Girlfriends dad said he was willing to swap them for a set of wrx 17s, as they will actually be useful for him as a set of tarmac rally wheels for his gc8

Anyway, torqued to spec is just the manuals way of saying 'we couldn't get it any tighter, see if you can'.

That is what they are designed for. But I love the look of them.

I like the wheels as well, reminds me of the Lancia Delta Intergrale HF wheels.

The wheels are really cool but dont suit the car. A GC8 with some fat tyres or something yeah but not a liberty.

I'm a fan of the rally wheel look - but not these, seem too busy, and they're an 80's look on a 90's car.

Up to you - the WRX swap sounds good to me.

They would suit if you put in outback bits, installed this http://page7.auction...tion/g146644056 and did a turbo swap with anti lag

maybe they'd be ok black... anyway, good buy on the car. Is all the paint aids isolated to bolt-on panels, or is there some on the roof, too?

All the panels look nice and straight with minimal door dings, which is impressive for its age.

The only bit that is still bad is the roof. The roof isn't nearly as bad as the bonnet was, but will still be getting it resprayed in the next couple of months

Just called the local powder coaters for a quote. $70 a rim for 17s.

Was expecting closer to $400 for the set, so those will be off to get done in the next couple of weeks

Wow, that's a lot cheaper than I would think too.

Wanting to buy/looking for: single genuine STi rim, genuine STi front lip, Corazon or Zero/Sports grille and another OEM grille

Can you hook a brother up? Please contact me now. I have cash ready.
