I recently bought an my00 Gc8 wrx. The previous owner has managed to dismantle the housing for the air flow sensor removing all of the mesh and leaving it an empty pipe. I've spent the last week trying to hunt down a replacement for it but have only had luck in finding the MAF housing/pipe in a non turbo rs. My questions are could i use this part? Am i able to simply buy some sort of replacement mesh? Does anyone know where to find this part new?
thank you in advance.

Does it run ok like this?

As if so it may have an aftermarket ecu tunning a map based tune?

So is it just the mesh removed? Or is the actual afm part gone aswell?

There seems to be a mixed response as to how this affects peoples cars, so i just want to have it back as stock.

the mesh is only to protect the sensor if by some chance a chunk of filter media comes off . as the sensor hot wire is running at 200 + degrees anyting that gets stuck on it will burn the wire out

the main reason its there is to regulate the flow of air over the sensor . in some cars in the usa they remove the mesh thinking it is better airflow but actually stops the ecu getting the proper reading

i can get you a used one in decent cond if u need one still

The mesh is there to correct the air flow over the sensor so as to provide an accurate reading. In reality it shouldn't make that much of a difference.

Replace oxygen sensors/leads/spark plugs and see how you go.
