Hi everyone, over the weekend I decided I was over the exhaust on my wife's car. It just didn't sound like anything except a fart in a muffler. I had the cat back system from my old gen 1 there and had done a little research and found that many subarus share similar exhaust, particularly liberties and imprezas. So, I lined up the exhaust under the car, and everything looked like it'd fit, except the flange that bolts to the headers was long. I pulled the exhaust, measured the difference, cut out a straight section welded it back up, bolted it all up and went for a spin. It sounded better, but no rumble. But it used to rumble on my liberty (light bulbb)).
Today I looked into putting the headers in, and from everything I read and advice from others, it sounded like a goer, but I'd be short off the flange (40mm).
Gen1 headers
Impreza headers
Flange difference
OK. No problem, so I swapped oxygen sensors and threw them in, but they hit on the sub frame
I cut that bit off with the grinder and they went in. In hindsight, if I had've pulled the bash cover plastic thing and had more room (and patience) I wouldn't have needed to do that! Oh well. Weight reduction.
So then there was the gap
I just added some pipe to the length between the hanger in the tailshaft tunnel and the flange (anywhere else would change the exhaust position) and bolted it up.
Result: the missus's smile when I started it up!
Profit.

I think tuning is a crime of passion, or maybe a labour of love. Either way it furiates and excites me.

Cut all the shrouds off the headers anyway and save it all from rusting out.
