simple strut-top lift blocks (bolt-in spacers at top of strut) will give you an inch. Slightly more complex ones will give you 2 inches without upsetting camber and castor adjustment range.

Check out offroadsubarus.com -- lots of local aussie knowledge plus sources.

You can also fit bigger tyres (limited by laws and available space) to give more clearance to the chassis.

i was going to lift mine to for off roading and rally sort of stuff out in the bush, but decided the lift from new tyres would be enough, iv got 16 inch rims and plan to put general grabbers A/T tyres on which, if the internet is correct, should lift the car about an inch.

apparently we can fit 215/65r16 tyres on with only scrubbing on the plastic liner at full lock. dirty impreza isn't bad for for tips on lifting impreza's

this thread also has some good info

I had my Gen4 SpecB liberty sitting on Tuned By STi Pinks
handled brilliant, just too low to be practical.

So I went from the 18's to 17" outback wheels and tyres (gained about 15mm height there and wider offset wheel) and also 1" strut top spacers.
it went up to 200mm clearance at the door sills without looking like it wan on stilts.
but maintained the ride quality and extra weight capacity of the STi gear
