Others will know more than me, it sounds like he drained the front/centre differential fluid. I was under the impression general gear oil was fine for this application also. The access to the diff fluid dip stick (and what you have taken photos of) is on the drivers side of the car (right hand drive) under the intercooler, access to the gearbox dip stick is on the passenger side. An automatic gearbox will need suitable automatic transmission fluid (red and thicker), and a manual another type of fluid, but I believe on both manual and automatic you still use a gear oil for the front/centre differential.

Pretty sure its the front/centre diff access, and from a quick google that is where you fill it. I have topped mine up at that location in the past. But I haven't got anymore knowledge to offer on the situation.

Check the levels, does it appear on the dip sticks? The front diff fluid is clear in colour.

Sounds to me like he used the correct type of fluid for the correct place. There have been cases of the centre differential failing over time, maybe changing the fluid highlighted the issue. It could also be coming from the transmission, and not the diff. Maybe a wheel bearing has failed, or a brake pad indicator.. even a slipping belt (some other metal on metal sound on take off).

Guys, so much bad info all in one place.
From the second photo you can see the vehicle is Automatic,
So yes it has a separate reservoir/ filler for the Front diff fluid
the Centre Differential is housed as part of the transmission.
I'd suggest not going anywhere near this bloke again.
Does the car make the squealing noises when idling in neutral/ Park
or only when you are in gear trying to drive it.??

What kind of a squeal is it, As it could just be a loose belt or over tightened one.
Have you tried taking it back to the guy to show him the noise, or someone else if you don't trust him.

If you can record the noise and upload it, we might be able to help more.
If it squeals when you rev the car stationary, you've eliminated gearbox/diff/drivetrain. The accessory belts might have been overtightened, this can damage the pulleys. The idler pulley is easy to damage, I have done it. When my idler pulley failed it would squeal for a few seconds then go silent.

Not when stationary, when in gear. I will in the morning, its just about midnight here and i got a young baby in bed cant move.
BUT.... turns out i talked to the mechanic and he said its most likely the transmission fluid... he said when he emptied it there was only about 2-3 qts of fluid in it so thats all he put back in and knows that it should be way more so he'll get them in the morning and put it in. Ill see if it corrects the problem
