Hey guys,

I had a go at painting the gtb wing and the colour is spot on but after I applied the clear coat it is not as glossy as the existing paint on the car. I was wondering the correct way to polish it up. Sorry but this is the first go I have had at any painting and to my knowledge do I need to:

-wet sand with 1000 grit

-Apply product (unsure of what specifically) and use a buffing wheel on a machine

-Polishing pad on the machine with polish

Pics of what it looks like at the moment

Thanks in advance,

Jack

Hey Jack,

Pics don't seem to be working.

It's probably the 1000grit that isn't helping. I usually use 2000 or 1500 at most for a very light once over. Cutting compound, then polish.

Thanks for the response, haven't sanded or polished anything yet. So 2000 wet sand and with the cutting compound and polish can you apply and use that by hand? try these pics?

Thanks in advance,

Jack

Yes its more work though but safer if you have no buffing experience

Sorry Jack, can't see those pics either. It sorta turns up as a hyperlink but doesn't load. Are you adding them as an attachment or have you uploaded them somewhere?

And I agree with gen3v8 - hand cut/polish is a good place to start. I've only recently bought pads to try powered cutting (v keen to have a go). With the wet sanding, I remember reading somewhere that wetting the paper isn't such a big deal as it was 20 years ago. I still do it, even just to clean the paper and get the powder/gunk out of it. If I get to my spoiler (painted, just needs a little more cutting) this weekend I'll post pics.
