So after hmmming and harrrrring about a ECU for my B4, I have returned to the forum for help

TBH i dont know a fricking thing about ECUs. All i know is that their not cheap and everyone seems to go for a Link G4 =)

So my combo goes as followed

I have a 99 B4 Legacy
Ej207 long block
TD06 Turbo
Equal length headers with a 3inch turbo back
550cc injectors
Probably have to do fuel pump but i havent gotten that far yet into digging

What ECU should i be looking at? I have a tuner ready for when everything is bolted on and running, I will never be plugging my laptop into the ECU and making changes myself.

So theirs like G4 storms, extreme, lightning, atom (some even plug and play but mines going to need repined no mater what)
And then theirs ECUs that plug into ECUs and wtfs

Im assuming that one has more features than the others like a basic/medium/advanced options list.

Came across this on Tardme. Seems pretty cheap comparing it to other Extreme links http://www.trademe.c....-980183914.htm

So should i be going for a link or something cheap and nasty

I've always run Haltech, with the exception of a Wolf 3D which was alright, but not as good as the Haltech.

I put up with people from amnesty, red cross and now the cancer council almost daily hounding me!! Throw in the greens, green peace, unhcr, save the forking children and I've well and truly hit my limit for the number of fuckstains wanting me to sign something or give money. Seriously cubts,  :fork: right off.

I have one of these available.

http://www.adaptroni.../product/e420d/

It is a wire in but you are better off making a patch loom for it.

If your a fan of MCM it is the same ecu Ben (Mechanical Stig) had in his 11 sec RS with similar mods and e85

Why an aftermarket ECU, if I may ask? An AUDM blobeye WRX ECU will do everything that engine needs, including AVCS.
Are 550cc going to be big enough? They're not big enough for a td05-18g on a 207 to make 200atw...

^^ As above, Factory WRX ECU and reflash to suit.

Yellow-top 440's will go to 200 ATW if you bump the rail pressure a smidge,
550's Easy

As im doing this car over in NZ im assuming their V7 ECU is different and the info i have received is all different also.

Can someone confirm that the AUDM is different to the JDM ECU? Because i actually picked up the ECU from the same car the 207 came out of.

As for the Haltech. What would be a good model to go for?

If you have the ECU that was already running the v7 207 you're well covered on the ECU front.

Version 7's were programmable from memory. So the only real difference between the au and jap versions would be the tuning, which would be negated by the fact you'll need a retune anyway.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

AUDM have immobilisers, which I believe you need the matching key and barrel?

JDM do not.

Is the immobiliser part of the ecu though? I thought it was a separate box that controlled that part, like a typical alarm.

If you use an ecu from a factory inmobilized car you will need its key barrel, key and immobilizer box all wired in to run it

Jdm do need have them...so can use any key barrel
Can possibly use another models barrel etc...i dont know...Al up at AM would but

Hey Matt,

How sure are you on needing to swap over the barrel?

I've done a V7 WRX STi engine and driveline swap into my 2001 SF GT Forester and I can't get it to start. ECU, immobiliser and transponder have been changed over to the WRX items. My Electrician says that the ECU isn't getting any power because of the immobiliser. He bypassed it to see if there was any issues after the ECU and couldn't find any. All sensors had power and the grounds were good, still couldn't start as the it was basically being hot wired.

I have the barrel from the WRX, but I'm now at a point where I've got to be smart where my money goes. I've been told that an aftermarket ECU should solve my starting issues as the immobiliser is no longer used.

Cheers

Bryan
