After searching for a while for either a Gen 4 or Hawkeye wagon for the misses, I came across this Impreza Luxury, 100% stock standard, with full service history and owned by a couple of oldies.
Exterior wise, the paint is in decent condition, with a few scratches and resprayed bumpers probably caused by being a car park warrior.
Interior seems much better, in good condition. The luxury comes with the sun roof + leather bucket seats, win, but compared to the Liberty of the same age, it's missing a lot of the features such as the decent sound system, better seats, etc.
Picture from the day we picked it up:
In stock form, the handling and stopping power is terrible, so first up the car got MY11 WRX wheels I had in the garage. The fit is very much flush, but the tyres will be changed to 225/40s from 245/45s to bring the speedo back to the correct amount.
The picture doesn't really show it, but the lights were fogged pretty badly and the output was crap, so we sanded off the top layer and tried to fix them as best we could. It could probably do with another sand with 2500+ grit sandpaper, if I can find it anywhere.
The stock head unit is pretty terrible, the sound is bad and it doesn't have any options outside of radio + cd. Ripping out the entire stock system is probably the only solution for this. I think it's 6.5" fronts and 5.25" rears for this car? Picked up a cheapish head unit and chucked that in, and have a set of 6.5" pioneer speakers ready to go once I've sourced some rears.
I've heard I'll need to use a spacer to fit the speakers? Is there anywhere that sells these locally?
I've found a set of brakes (4 pot GC8/WRX ones) which after some cleaning and paint will get fitted, also came with pads + rotors with decent life left on each. White lettering will return if it's not too hard to do it by hand and they still need a couple more coats of red done.
To do on this car:
- Fit speakers
- Fit brakes
- Fix handling, currently drives like a boat
and it should be drive awesome.
