I have had a comprehensive build thread for this car on rexnet..to what it has become today. I would like to mention that it is 90% complete, only because i know for a fact, i cannot help myself but continue modding whenever possible. we will see what the future holds.
Anyway, with this car, i wanted to build something that still felt like a factory car with daily ability and a lot of go. when building a car with factory/stock feel, it maintains a higher rate of reliability as with most cars upgraded with aftermarket parts, the maintenance becomes a challenge and the strength of the car becomes limited in terms of long term reliability.
as it was.. i acquired this car back in 2010..when it was 100% stock
then that same year i began chasing what most gc8 owners chased..a 200kw setup which consisted of the following
VF30 Turbo
FMIC CX Racing
3Inch TurboXS TBE with 2.5 diffback
Aeromotive Fuel Reg
Walbro 500hp Fuel pump
Haltech Platinum Interceptor
an epic MSR Tune that resulted in a raw 208KW atw
3 years later in 2014..i blew 2nd gear in normal traffic..i guess three years of raw torque and heavy duty clutch was too much for the gearbox..
then...
then it all changed..
what was meant to be a gearbox replacement..became the quest to find a 6 speed replacement box and re-using R160 diff and maintaining the same 200kw setup..
and not long after that..things escalated farther than i would imagine..i decided to future proof the car...so i sourced out the following;
MY06-07 WRX STI running gear.. consisting of;
- 6 speed gearbox
- R180 diff
- 5x114.3 hubs
- Brembos
- LCAs
- driveshafts
- Stock STi rims
needless to say how much the car changed after bolting it all in..
but that wasn't the end of it..at this point...i needed to go the extramile and go for a 2.5 Setup.
i sourced out an EJ257 out of an 2010 STi with about 20,000kms which blew ringlands...then went to Ichiban for an epic journey
the boys at ichiban built the shortblock with Forged Manley H Beam rods and Forged Manley pistons with ARP2000 11mm headstuds - re-using factory MY99 heads
this longblock is now good for a streetable 300KW while keeping things in a "stock" form, it just means i now have a strong built bottom end...
as things stand at present, i am somewhat still running this new motor in..
the engine mod list has also changed..

the car currently makes 235KW atw/~720nm on BP98..after driving it another 10,000kms, i will come back with GTPS03 and aim to hit 270KW on BP98..and with Eflex hopefully 300kw
