The 2017 Subaru Impreza has been revealed possibly by accident at the 2016 New York motor show via Subarus Periscope social media feed, which was prematurely cut short.

Thankfully, Subaru followed up with three official images that show a cohesive Impreza with flowing lines from front to rear.

New polished wheels team with a rising beltline and sculpted chisels at the front and a new headlight cluster.

The interior shows a fresh layout with a larger colour touchscreen and upper gauge cluster.

A revised dashboard helps bring a premium look and feel to the Impreza, along with what appears to be a new seat design.

While Subaru is yet to reveal official details for this weeks debut, it has previously confirmed that buyers can expect a new generation of infotainment and safety technologies on-board

And, as as always, local fans can anticipate an exclusively all-wheel-drive Impreza range.

Five-door hatch and four-door sedan models will again feature, with recent concepts offering a hint at what we can expect from both body styles.

Todays unveiling, of course, reveals the extent to which the concept pairs styling and proportions will carry over to production.

Under the skin, the next-generation Impreza will be the first model to be based on the Subaru Global Platform, a scalable architecture that will eventually underpin all of the brands non-kei car and Japanese domestic market offerings.

This will include the next-gen Forester, likely to debut in 2018, Liberty, Outback, and the successor to the three-row Tribeca.

Depending on global demand, the new Impreza sedan and hatch are pencilled in for a December launch down under. The XV should arrive six months after that.

Watch for more information to come tomorrow, once the vehicle is officially unveiled at the New York motor show.

Wow.

It actually looks half decent. Rear end seems a bit Honda-ish but not a bad thing. Finally, it looks like the interior is up to scratch with current class rivals.

I'm impressed, er, Iprezzed.... Or Impretza as the ol' English call it.

Taillights are shocker. Interior looks waaay better and by the looks of it side profile is straight of the current WRX, i.e. rear doors etc...

The hatch will probably be the better looker...

If they didn't do the extra clear bit under the tail light it would look much sleeker.

I just can't get past the whole door mounted mirror thing they are putting on all models... makes it look el cheapo.

Lip, scoop, rims, low. Will look great.

And jim I never noticed those side mirrors before! Man that looks weird. And yeah, a bit pov-spec

They'll all have side mirrors as it gives a slight improvement in fuel economy.

Jimbo, regarding the taillights, I had the exact same thought!

Rear end looks much better, I really dislike the fat arsed bumper on the MY15/16.

The biggest improvement seems to be the interior.  It looks so much more luxurious, modern and well appointed. Stylish even.

Pity the steering wheel is on the wrong forking side

  :nik:
