Subaru have one of the best CVT's on the market so it would be interesting to see how they go. Apparently the MY15 WRX was about 50/50 in MT vs CVT sales, can it really be that bad?

Though, surely they could have developed a DCT instead of CVT? I'm interested why they went down the CVT path instead.

I love a manual as much as the next dude but I might take one for a spin when they drop.

Jimbo, CVT has been a sales success in the WRX. DCT's are complicated and very expensive (especially for Subaru who have never had one). They've been using CVT's for years and they went down this path because it allows fuel efficiency gains.

An example I can give you is the Liberty 2.5 with CVT. The engine hardware (or power/torque) hasn't changed much but there has been massive fuel efficiency gains with the CVT compared to the 5sp auto/4sp auto..

Ah yeah, there ya go.

Have you driven a Subaru CVT zahmad? I'm interested to know what it's like. Kong actually says his is brilliant in his little Impreza.

I did a weekend road trip in a CVT Impreza. They are fine. Not as predictable as a 4EAT but they do a really good job.

All this 'mer, no manual = no sale, mer' shit from kids who are driving 20yo cars is ill informed.

Just look at the Evo X SST.

I would have no problem dropping my hard earned on a Levorg, even with a CVT. Things got a nice presence about it, much like the Gen4, but can still be a rip snorting bastard when you sink in the welly. Only criticism I can give it on the aesthetics front, is that it hasn't tried very hard to depart from the WRX front fascia. I know it shares a platform but it would have been great to have a unique front end and still have the corporate look on it. Kinda makes the styling a bit half-baked. Especially since they were attempting to draw back ex-Liberty/Legacy GT wagon owners.

As a whole, I would have thought it would have made sense to continue with the Legacy/Liberty GT wagon variant in Gen6 than spend all the R&D on developing a new stand-alone model. That's what has me baffled. Every time I see a new Gen6 Outback, I kind of like to squint at it and imagine what it would look like as a regular wagon with the GT wand waved at it. It would look fantastic!

I guess with the demise of the both the Legacy GT and WRX hatch, the money wasn't there to appease both markets, hence a blend of the two.

Though, surely a Gen6 GT in sedan/wagon would have been a much more promising package than a WRX hatch, those guys would surely be happy to just jump into the similar sized Foz XT.

Just look at whats available now in the mid-size "touring" segment, they've all come out of the woodwork. Hyundai/Kia both have a premium turbo sedan, Skoda Superb/Octavia, Audi 2.0T, Volvo S60, Opel Insignia, VW Passat and I'm sure there's more...

You are bang on that the newest Outback is hawt Jimbo. Compared to the shitty Outback based on the Gen V Liberty the newest model looks solid, if I were to buy a newer Subaru I'd be picking up a 3.6 Outback and not the Levorg.

That being said, the Levorg looks great. I acknowledge it's still very WRX, but to be honest the Liberty is now so huge, a Liberty wagon would need a lot of grunt to be considered a sports model. Add to that Subaru have discontinued turbo Libertys. So really your performance Liberty wagon will now be the Outback.
