I'd suspect fuel or spark.

Pull the fuel line from the tank/pump at the firewall and see if you get a good spray of fuel into a bucket when the ignition is on.

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to on, just before you crank?

there's your problem then.

Check the fuse first.. then getting voltage at the pump?

Could be your pump or controller has gone tits up.

Do you still have the Brant alarm installed?

ok, maybe not the issue but
#1) don't rush the keys from Off to Start in any car
turn to ON, wait for the FP relay to click, or the gauge sweep in cars with a fancy dash then turn to START

#2) if you're not hearing the FP prime, then troubleshoot that circuit.
Fuses and relay first, then the wiring loom plug under the rear seat, or as mentioned Immobiliser.

If the fuel pump doesn't prime when you turn the key. And you've checked all fuses and relays (its the big round silver relay under the dash) and eliminated any immobilisers. As duncanm said, It can either be the fuel pump or the fuel pump controller.

I'd try another fuel pump, if it still doesn't go then move on to the fuel pump controller. I was lucky enough to borrow a fuel pump so I could test.

Worst case, its a wiring issue.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but my Liberty b4 died just now. I went to start it and all I got was a click. All interior and headlights work and little circle window in the battery says it's fine. I suspect starter motor as I read a receipt in the cars service history that said The starter got reconditioned. If it does turn out to be that, just wondering if a normal ej20 starter would work?

Id be double checking the battery. Swap a known good one or check with a multi meter. No an normal starter wont work. You need a start from a B4

I recently had a battery die but it still showed +12v on the multimeter and the battery check window was still showing it was okay. All windows, lights etc worked, car just wouldn't start.

Noticed battery was a bit swollen and emitting a stank. Chucked it and bought a new one, and blammo car started perfectly.

If it was the starter motor you wouldn't even get a click.

give the terminals a good wiggle, too.  Often its as simple as a corroded or loose connection.

Yeah it just ended up being shitty connection. Some goose put terminal protector on it. I might just get a new battery anyway. Thanks for the ideas
