Hey guys

Just tidying up my new headunit and amp install (only taken me a month!)

And im getting quite frustrated at the antenna system..

The B4 had the stock McIntosh stereo witch had some sorcery with the antennas

My new headunit is kenwood (ddx5015dab)

I cant for the life of me get any adapter to work for me to get radio...

any ideas?

Hmm. I can't remember what I did with mine. There's two plugs right?

I either used the one male plug and ignored the other or adapted it some how.

Let me know how you go. I might pull my headunit out and have a look.

Yeah two plugs

One is for fm, one is for am apparently.

My old rx used a Nissan diversity adapter (i believe it was called)

And the JVC unit i had in there was fine with that

The new Kenwood however.. nope.

altho like everything on this car. it's always something just a little different...

Hmm, I thought it was a powered loop antenna.

Doubt you care about AM so have you tried plugging the male antenna plug straight into the head unit without any adapters?

On a side note:

Did you change out all the speakers and stock amp too? The McIntosh system is 8Ohm with a stock amp under the drivers seat. I found it easier to run new wiring.

Actually, your mention of diversity rings a bell. At least from what I remember my old McIntosh would switch antennas based on signal strength.

Ah it could be a looped...

Couldn't plug it in with out an extension, not enough reach. but might pull it all apart and see...

Just remembered last night the the RX's had the diversity as the main connector, and i needed to use the adapter to get a normal male plug

RE: side note

Yeah ran new rca cables to aftermarket amp in the back, then made up a custom wiring loom that plugs into where the stock amp went.

I am wandering if in all this if the antenna isnt getting any power... and i have no idea where to find the power for that!

Rear wiring harness has a plug for antenna amplifier... R97.

Not sure if the Macintosh is different, but on the non-Mc version, this goes through the rear speaker connector i53 pin 11 (marked 'radio amplifier'. Plug is in passenger footwell/door area.). You can see the Mc version has the same plug, but says its not connected to anything. I'm not sure I believe that, I reckon the power for the antenna amp probably still runs through it.

If you still need advice I might pull my head unit out and see how I made mine work. I do recall the antenna cord being very short.

Yeah plulled it it. Turns out I had just plugged the antenna straight in.

Installed a new head unit myself recently and tried the radio, nothing. I was so sure I had it working though. Sorry.
