Okay,

Some of you guys might know I had a fit of rage with the lawnmower and nearly threw it 3 suburbs across.

It wasn't the dearest lawnmower and it worked a treat until it just randomly started leaking fuel everywhere.

The problem I am having with it, it pisses fuel out of the carburetor. I have circled where it comes out. As soon as you fill the tank, it gushes out of the fuel needle and the (what I am assuming) is the overflow outlet. This "overflow outlet" runs into the plastic cover and a rubberhose seems to carry it back into the cylinder.

I checked out the fuel pot and the float works and so does the regulator pin(?). I don't know exactly how it works but I assume once fuel enters the pot the float rises and moves the pin which regulates the flow of fuel.

There's a stem which comes from the carb into the fuel pot which I assume is the pick-up.

The circle I have marked inside the carb is the fuel needle.

Anyone able to shed some light on this? Can't afford a new mower at this stage so I would like to get this nugget working again.

See if you can find a replacement carby, mate. They probably aren't more than 50 bucks.

Tempting! They're torquey buggers. 11.2Nm. $500 from Bunnings.

Found a replacement carb on fleabay, looks to be a pretty generic/copied/china part. $30, will grab one and see how she goes. Mine isn't the best mower (16" cut) and takes ages to mow football field. Was a Masters $150 special, I know you get what you pay for but at the time it was the most practical choice.

While I'm on it, I pulled the carby off again to check the float in the fuel pot.

Is the float supposed to have fluid in it? I did some research on youtube and found a possible solution in which the float splits and fills with fuel. If it won't float, the regulator pin would stay down and let the fuel pot overflow and then into the carby.

When I pulled mine out to check it, there is indeed fluid inside the float but there are no visible splits/holes/cracks in it. I'm thinking there's a pre-set amount of fluid in it which allows the float to work in a certain range and regulate the fuel flow properly.

I might be wrong though..

Okay so this must be the problem. If it's somehow filled itself with fuel, it wont be rising with the fuel level and the regulator pin will be held open.

I checked it out but can't for the life of me figure out how it's ended up full of fuel. There's no visible holes or cracks in it! I guess I'll have to drain it and patch it up, see what happens.
