Subaru has taken the wraps off a new model based on the Japanese-market Levorg wagon.

The car is called the Levorg STI Sport, and its been developed by the automakers in-house tuner Subaru Tecnica International.

The Sport in the title signifies that this isnt one of the tuners dedicated performance offerings like the WRX STI. Rather, its a performance light model designed to appeal to older, more conservative types looking for a mix of performance and premium qualities.

There are two powertrain options on offer, both of them turbocharged flat-4s. The standard option is a 168-horsepower 1.6-liter mill while those seeking more power can upgrade to a 296-hp 2.0-liter mill that Subaru uses in the WRX STI in some markets.

Unfortunately, the sole transmission is a CVT.

The Levorg STI Sport has also been dressed up with unique bumpers, an aero kit and a set of 18-inch wheels. And to aid the handling theres Bilstein adjustable dampers, uprated springs and a recalibrated electronic power steering system.

Inside, theres leather trim on the seats, steering wheel and gear shift lever. STI logos are also littered around the cabin, for example on the headrests, steering wheel and door sills.

Subaru will start selling the Levorg STI Sport in Japan this summer.

Hmm, still not a STi, just a jazzed up GT-S Spec B.

If it does make it to Aus I bet it'll be limited run, 300 tops.

That 2.0 sounds good though.

So... is not a true STi, but instead of "tuned by" or similar, they call it an STi and add "sport" to somehow denote that it's a lower performance variant.

Subaru marketing team. High as fork.

CVT or not, I'd still buy it if I had a lazy (probably) $60k.

Love it.

The red interior looks tops as well.

Wanting to buy/looking for: single genuine STi rim, genuine STi front lip, Corazon or Zero/Sports grille and another OEM grille

Can you hook a brother up? Please contact me now. I have cash ready.
