Well I've found a tuner nearby with a dyno. Given I haven't got any major issues with the car and it performs well, I'm still hesitant. At $700 I want to make sure I get my money's worth.

I currently have a silicone intake and phenolic spacers that are not tuned for, but what else should I be looking at before I get this done?

Top of the ECV is blocked off. It opens too early otherwise. Leave it this way? Car hasn't had any complaints.

Exhaust is totally stock. Any options here? I don't care that it is quiet but could it breathe better?

I have an unboxed pod filter. Should I bother boxing it before the tune and try to feed it cold air?

Definitely worth doing the exhaust. IIRC the TT combo is 2.5" dumps to a 3" catback

Know of any exhausts for sale?

Exhaust is definitely worth doing, even untuned can feel the difference!

I have a flexfuel e85 setup for a B4 that I don't think I'm going to use if you want to give that a go too, PM if you're interested.

The only exhaust I can find is from MRT.

Should I replace the BPV with a recirc BOV?

And are there any better intercoolers out there for the B4?

AVO still sell intercoolers new, or you might be able to find some discontinued Hyperflow ones second-hand, or ARC intercoolers new from japan (v. expensive but they do come up regularly on yahoo.jp secondhand). Those are all top-mount, Scarles in NZ do a front mount.

zero sports make tt dumps, a couple other jap tuning company's may too. They come up on yahoo japan every now and then, never cheap though.

So I have found a custom turbo back exhaust and bought natho's ported turbos.

Last weekend I fabricated an air box to go around my pod filter (custom cold air intake) and installed a second catch can for my valve cover breathers.

My tuner is a busy man so I'm not yet sure when I can get a tune. I hope to install my turbos and mods and still be able to drive around gently until tune time.

For anyone still interested:

Met with my tuner today. He checked my car over and that the ECU can be tuned. He was concerned about the MRT stickers. Apparently he has had trouble sorting the mess they have made.

Anyway, turns out it hasn't been tuned previously like I thought. It may have a ecuTek badge but it is running stock. Interestingly it does have a JDM ecu though.

Still on track for a tune August. I'm still concerned about slight misfire at idle and at high boost on primary. Hoping it is just a result of the untuned mods.

sounds like your almost there.

Any chance a PO replaced the ecu-wreck with a JDM ECU ?

I'd be sorting out the misfire -- unlikely to be mods causing it at idle, I would have thought.

Well the misfire at idle is a lot better than it was, only minor miss here and there and it doesn't always do it.

Replacing cam shaft sensor wiring first improved it, but then replacing the alternator made the biggest difference.

I suspect it is still an electrical issue at idle. As for the miss at high load high boost on primary, I dunno.

My tuner said the JDM ECU would have been installed as performance mod as the Japanese tune is better.

Right. The misfire under load got worse. Car was running great until Saturday. Will make a new thread about the problem.

I'm going to revive this thread. Tune is booked for the 10th of Sep finally.

I'm wondering about the BOV vacuum lines. Stock, these cars run a vacuum line to the manifold and another line with a 1.5mm pill to the intake pipe. I've read about removing the line to the intake pipe and running the BOV direct to the manifold only. Can someone explain pro's and con's of that kind of setup?

Finally, I'm considering buying 0.8mm pill to do the line 1 mod. Is it worth doing before the tune and does it work on Rev D's?

I should mention that I have done the BOV mod before.

I recently went back to stock to try and prevent some weird boost fluctuations I get at part throttle (mostly highway). The boost will pulse gently between 0 and 5psi.

I'm fairly certain it is related to the positive side of the ECV (or the mechanisms that control it). If the top ECV port is blocked off it doesn't happen.

Going back to stock BOV setup didn't fix it.
