Flip Key Mod

Difficultly: Easy
Things Required: Screw Driver, Old Keyfob, New Shell, Plastic Pry Tool, Blutack(might be needed), Battery
Cost: <$60(this will depend on the shell needed, cost of key cutting)
Notes: This guide uses subarus 3 button keyfob, but it can be applied to any car with any keyfob.
Use a keyfob that might be damaged, the screw on mine is bad so I performed the mod using its internals
Some Lock smiths may not want to cut these types of blades as they are stainless steel and will wear out the cutting bits on the machine according to one of the locksmiths I spoke to.

PDF Download: Dropbox Download

1: Start by removing the screw that holds the keyfob together.
Refer to the car user manual to see how the keyfob comes apart.

2: Remove the two halfs of the keyfob.

3: Using your finger nail or plastic spudger get between the gap and move the cap upwards to remove it so we can get access to the transponder chip.
The device in the red box is the transponder chip.

4: Gently get the transponder chip out of the shell of the old keyfob.
I tapped mine in a downward direction and it fell out easily.
Once it comes out put it aside in a safe location.
TAKE CARE AS THE TRANSPONDER CHIP IS FRAGILE
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DAMAGE IT

5: Grab the new shell and look for where you remove the screws that hold it together.

6: Lift the top of the shell up, whilst keeping pressure where the key button is
to keep tension on the spring.
Place the transponder chip into the shell.

7: I had to place blutack to keep the transponder from coming out.
The top popped off when I let go of it

8: Place the old keys electronics into the key and put the key back together, I also installed a new battery so I would not need to open this thing for a long time.

9: This next step is to test if it will work before getting the key cut.
Put the old keyfob and the new one together like so.

10: Insert the old key into the ignition barrel with the new one above it.

11: You should hopefully get the following occur.
If the immobiliser light turns off and stays off, it will most likely work.

If immobiliser light stays on, the mod likely wont work or you made a mistake
So try again just in case.

12: If you had a success with the test above, get the key cut.

13: Put the logo on the back

14: Slowly insert the flip key into the ignition barrel to see if it comes in smoothly and check to see if the immobiliser light remains off.

15: Start car and done, you now have your own flip key.

Final Notes: The look will depend on the flip key shell you get, with many cheap ones on ebay it might not look the best or feel strong, and the flipping may feel rough.
