What are the Differences on the 208 and the sti 207 lot of people are telling the 208 is weak not forged the valves are not sodium filled it goes on... but still Subaru used the 208 on the s401 they could have gone 207 to make it perfect but they didn't they used the 208. What are the weaknesses of the 208 and what can we do to make it as good or better than the sti 207.

Biggest difference would be semi closed deck vs open deck for the 208

And yep forged pistons for v7 jdm and all Aussie sti 207's

I have rarely heard of EJ206's or EJ208's lunching themselves. Only reason they are probably labelled as weak is the Aus delivered B4's had a crap tune which pinged these engines to death.

Still damn good engines.

My original EJ206 (minor differences between 208 & 206, 206 is on an AT and 208 MT) pulled hard and barely consumed oil after a hard 16 year life. Couldn't fault it.

yeh - I'm not sure what 'sucks' means.

Exhaust valves are sodium filled.  They're more akin to a 205 - open deck, non-forged, etc.

I've just read so much hate towards the 208 on all forums i don't know why that is.

Depends what you are going for

A twin turbo set up, tuned working to its full potential isn't going to push the limits of a 208
So don't really have to worry

If you are doing a single turbo build and wanting say more than 250 kw maybe look into a 207 or strengthening the 208

What about 300Whp ? Thats sort of my target for this conversion. What do you think the max I can go for the 208 at the wheels

There is a gen 3 outback on this forum with tt on e85 and it seems to be lasting at 300hp at the wheels

So you probably will be right, as the others said it's probably closer to a wrx 205 engine

I've had no worries with the 208. It's been making 220+kw on e85 for 2.5 years now. I do about 8000-10000kms per year.

The 207 crank shaft is also cross drilled.

If you are staying under 20psi, semi closed deck not required.
