Guy, I thought this list might be of some use to those of you who are considering getting to some to the speed off the street type events, drags, driver training or open track days. Most of these venues offer driver training days, skid pan, gymkhana and drift as well as traditional drag and circuit events. This list doesn’t cover all Australian motor sport venues but does outline a bunch of the major ones. Please add to this list any other tracks, strips or motor sport parks you think people might be interested in...

Clear run off areas exist for maximum competitor safety. Road racing is in an anti–clockwise direction, a variety of bends, curves, turns and straights present cornering and braking challenges.

The control tower gives officials a birds eye view of the track, paddock, medical centre and helipad. Fifty garage pit lane, easy access for transporters and a secure base for bikes and equipment. The support paddock has a bitumen surface, a dummy grid, eighteen carports and scrutineering building.

Western Sydney International Dragway

The WSID facility is a full international standard drag strip, built to current NHRA specifications. The braking are is 600 metres of asphalt, with a 120 metre gravel trap and catch net at the end. The track is 70 metres above sea level at the start line and approximately 66 metres at the finish line.

Car parking is along the western side of the property, where approximately 8000 vehicles can be accommodated. Patrons have a choice of a fenced Convenience Car Parking area, with access only through a security guarded gate for a fee, or in free paddock parking areas to the south of this. Access for the public is via a two-lane entry road off the relocated Ferrers Road, midway along the western side of the property. The car parking areas are about to undergo a massive multi-million dollar redevelopment program for enhanced public comfort and convenience.

The return road passes in front of the western spectator mound, back beneath the tower and past the end of the scrutineering building and timing card distribution point, and into the pits.

The above formula has resulted in a world class drag strip, on a par with anything in operation anywhere overseas. Further development is planned to continue the enhancement of the track to its full potential, and to extend the resources to embrace a wide range of options which will augment the venue's functional success, but the core is there to fund that future development.

Oran Park Raceway

Australia’s only figure 8 national circuit. This 2.6km layout incorporates the Yokohama Bridge as well as 12 of the most challenging corners in Australia. The best place in Australia to watch V8 Supercars, or any other mortorsport. With a mixture of slow, technical corners and fast sweepers, as well as some exciting changes of height. The Grand Prix circuit can be split up into two separate circuits to be used simultaneously.

The South Circuit, the original Oran park circuit built in 1962 consists of the main straight, pit lane garages and a constant radius 180 degree turn at the end.

The scene of a number of great touring car battles in the 1960’s and early 1970’s.

Oran Park is about 1 hour west of Sydney, 2 hours from Newcastle and 1 hour from Wollongong.

Unfortunately Oran Park is to be turned into a housing estate in the near future depriving us and the rest of the community of a favourite and historic race circuit, just as happened to Amaroo Park!

Lakeside International Raceway

The Lakeside Motorsport Complex includes the famous Lakeside International Raceway and Roadcraft driver training facility. Located between the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, the circuit sits on the banks of Lake Kurwongbah in Queensland. For decades, the circuit was second only to Bathurst as Australia's fastest race track.

Considered a true driver's circuit, Lakeside International Raceway runs in a clockwise direction and the difficulty of its corners are compounded by dramatic changes in elevation. Furthermore, all corners share a common radius, which allows competitors to develop a rhythm, however, concentration cannot be allowed to lapse as all corners feature a change from positive to negative camber mid-corner.

The corners at Lakeside have become infamous within the motor racing ranks. Tarmac turns such as the Kink, the Karrousel, the Bus Stop and the Eastern Loop have all claimed their fair share competitors, but none more so than Hungry Corner. It's a free flowing circuit that undulates across rolling green hills, but don't be deceived by the scenery, it's only for the brave as run-off area is at a premium.

off Lakeside Road, Kurwongbah

Mallala Motorsport Park

Mallala Motor Sport Park is a 2.6 km (1.6 mi) bitumen motor racing circuit near the town of Mallala, 1 hour's drive north of Adelaide, South Australia.

Since its re-opening, the Mallala circuit has been used for car and motorcycle racing, along with private driver training courses. The South Australia Police use the circuit for driver training and assessment.

The circuit is no longer used as a venue for the V8 Supercar Championship Series, as in 1999 the South Australian round was transformed into the Clipsal 500 held on the Adelaide Street Circuit in the Adelaide Park Lands. In 2006 it was announced that Mallala would no longer host a round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.

Other major meetings held at Mallala annually include the Shannons Nationals, Australian Superbike Championship and Supertruck Racing.

Several meetings at Mallala are run by the Sporting Car Club of SA. Other clubs that regularly use the circuit include the Adelaide Superkart Club, Marque Sports Car Association of SA, and the MG Car Club of SA.

The Elfin Mallala was named after the circuit due to the fact that it competed in its first race there.

Mallala Motor Sport Park is just over an hour from the centre of Adelaide. Follow the signs
from Port Wakefield road, drive through the town of Mallala for a kilometre and there it is.
Parking is easy, there are plenty of toilets, grandstand seats and food outlets…….and
you can see most of the circuit from trackside

Calder Park Raceway

Calder Park Raceway was founded in the farming community of Diggers Rest and began as a dirt track carved into a paddock by a group of motoring enthusiasts who wanted somewhere to race their FJ Holdens.

The Australian Motor Sports Club hosted their first meeting on a bitumen track on January 14, 1962.

The track design back then was very similar to the existing Club Circuit, which is still in use today.

In the early 70s Bob Jane purchased Calder Park and from there it became a Victorian motorsport icon with international events drawing in international superstars and crowds to the facility.

The first ever World Touring Car Championship round held in Australia was run on the Calder Park Grand Prix circuit in 1989.

This was the first and only time the Grand Prix Circuit (a combination of National and Thunderdome circuits) was used.

Calder Park was also the first to host Superbikes and Super Trucks; the trucks competing on both National and Thunderdome circuits in separate events.

The National Circuit's long front straight also features a drag strip, which was the home of the Australian National Drag Racing Championship for many years.

The strip is still regarded the fastest all-bitumen drag strip in the world.

Most recently, Calder Park introduced drifting events to its impressive list of motorsport activities. The first ever Drift Nationals held in March 2004 attracted over 8,000 spectators and added another inaugural event to the long list of new activities nurtured by Calder Park Raceway.

Phillip Island

Currently holding regular events for V8 Supercars and Superbikes, Phillip Island Circuits’ roots go all the way back to 1928 when it was a dust track and was some 16km in length, although not at its current location.

The current 4.5 km circuit has had many ups and downs, a bit like its elevation changes, with land maintenance and financial woes besetting what could have been a fine history. Several closures and re-openings later, the World Motorcycling Championship finally brought some stability to the circuit in 1989.

JET22T was one of the absolutely most insanest Subaru I have ever heard/seen. It was light years ahead of its time, and even still, it holds its ground. 10 second Subaru. With even more potential.

Symmons Plains

Symmons Plains International Raceway is located on Midland Highway some 30km south of Launceston.

The track is known for several interesting features including its very long back straight with a kink, its extremely tight hairpin bend at the end of the front straight and the unusual placement of the original start/finish line and grid that was on a curve.
