Funny how things work out.

Not long after purchasing our Gen 5 GT sedan in September, my wife fell pregnant with child #2. Whilst we absolutely loved the car, it instantly became impractical for our needs. I casually threw it up for sale in the hope that we'd be able to use the money to buy a wagon instead. Sure enough, the first person to inspect the car bought it.

Really wanted to replace the sedan with an identical wagon but was keeping an eye out for Gen 4 3.0s and GTs as well. Low and behold, last Friday afternoon, the perfect replacement popped up. Gave them a call straight away - dealer/auction house in Sydney. Perfect model, colour, km, condition, history and price. Inspected the car Sunday morning and deposit was paid.

By Tuesday morning, the car was ready to collect (they had to do specific pre-sale checks, etc).

All in all, we are very happy with the car. Being an eight year old car, there are a few things that require attention but I'm happy to have something to work on again! I really loved the sedan but I've wanted a Gen 5 GT wagon for years now. Pretty stoked to finally have one in the garage...

Details

2009 MY10 Subaru Liberty GT Premium wagon

Satin white pearl

5EAT automatic

127,800 km on collection (major service completed)

Epic factory extras

Mesh front grille

Window visor monsoons

Mud flaps

Floor mats

To fix

2-3 minor paint touch ups

Headlights are starting to get the standard Subaru haze (definitely took the sedan headlights for granted - perfect clarity at 178k km!)

Fuse cover clips - ordered

Drivers rear mirror lower trim cover

Remove poor quality tint from front two windows

Got a few mods in mind I'd like to do in the future. We're happy with it for now though so we'll see how we go.

I thought Gen5's were the most piss ugly things ever to come out of Subaru.

But...

They're actually growing on me. The wagons definitely look much better than the sedans. Especially in fridge white! Mesh grille does it many favours too!

Needs a bigger wing and some bigger exhaust tips and it's perfecto! :P

I'm absolutely in love with this car haha. Will have to wash it and take some proper photos.

Was only talking this morning with Luke about how small the exhaust tips are compared to the cutout the rear bar has. Should get that fixed :P

The series 2 mesh grille has a white surround while the series 1 has a dark surround. I have to get some paint for a few other nicks around the bumpers so thinking of colour coding the surround too?

Do you have to change your front bumper to suit the Series 2 mesh grille? It looks slightly different to your front bumper in your signature pic.

The grilles are different shapes. If I was to go with the white surround, I'd paint mine ;)

That makes sense...

I actually don't even mind the OEM grille to be honest. I reckon all the chrome looks nice with the headlights and matches the theme. Black surround looks good on the mesh grille too though.

Churrs

Made a small list of things that required attention. Have spent a few hours cleaning bits and pieces, cutting back a few blemishes and marks over the body. So far, they've all been easy to remove and the car is in fantastic shape.

There was some nice yellow duct tape holding the fuse cover in it's position so ordered some new clips which arrived last week. Fitted them up today and removed all the sticky gunk left over from the tape. This appears to be a common problem with these - both GTs have had missing fuse cover clips.

Front windows had previously been tinted to match the rear privacy glass but had started to lift. Spent a few hours this morning removing the tint altogether and it looks much cleaner. Might get it retinted in the future but no rush for that.

Headlights had the typical haze. Gave them a cut, polish and seal. Now looking almost perfect. I miss the sedan headlights. That car basically spent 8 years in garages and looked like they were brand new. For a car with nearly 180k km, I didn't realise how good I had it :P

One of the prox keys was having trouble being recognised. New battery and we're cookin' with peanut oil.

Found a used set of roof racks from a local seller on Facebook. Picked them up for $100 and they've only been used 4-5 times! Cheering.

Now for some photos :)

Best thing eva.

Cargo barriers severely limit cargo carrying capacity with the seats down.

They do, and they look ugly, but they are very good at stopping shit flying around the cabin if things get nasty.

I find that most of the time there is no need to fold the seats down, but when needed they are not hard to remove.

Like most things, there are positives and negatives. Always got to roof racks if something is too big for the boot. Or I'd just use the ute...
