Recently i purchased a new car so i no longer need my 2001 MY01 RX Impreza as a daily, I'm planning to see how much power I can get out of it whilst keeping it under the 10K mark.

Trying to find somewhere that will do cam regrinds or that sells aftermarket cams for an N/A ej20 that have a larger lobe than factory, also looking at internals and EL exhausts.

Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

Pissing in the wind if you think you can squeeze power from a 16yo NA engine. Just spend the dollars on suspension/handling, and then give engine a good service.

I bought delta 1500 cams for my ej25 (outback) a while ago, rebuilt it with new bearings, pistons, arp head and conrods bolts, STI head gaskets and supertech valve springs.
Still have the standard ecu and exhaust, but still goes way better than the old motor! Doesn't hit a wall at 4000rpm, goes straight to the limiter!

Certainly no wrx, but I reckon the cams were good bang for buck.

If you really want to go to some effort, try to fit an ej25 into your car. You could probably just get a second hand low km motor, put some cams and springs in, and away you go! Don't spend anywhere near 10k though.. don't even go over 3k!

If you do go with the delta cams, beware they make some tappet noise! It's just how they are.. but make sure you check valve spring bind clearances and where the rocker rides on the end of the valve. We ended up machining the head to sink the cams in tiny bit (closer to the piston direction) helped the geometry a fair bit and the lash adjusters aren't screwed all the way out of the rocker too.
Nasioc and Rs25.com have heaps of info too.

thanks for that, the aim is 130kw at the wheels on the ej20 as the only restriction i have is what engine i can use.

hmm ok goodluck with that from an ej20. 130kw at the wheels is over 165ish at the flywheel.. (that might be conservative too??)

Honda S2000's have that sort of power but I'm pretty sure they are a wwwaaaayyyyy better N/A motor than Subaru ever built..

This guy got close with a EJ25 though:

Strap a Toyota SC14 on the side of it :D

Can create a toggle switch to turn it on and off or have it click in at a certain throttle position ;)

All the best with it

Cheers

Might seem a bit generic but a turbo conversion will be the best value

Especially if your budget is 10k
Will easily buy you a gd sti half cut with everything you need

El_Freddo do you do that with an aircon clutch or do they come standard with that? sounds like a sweet idea for my engine!

Edit: Cancel that, google comes to the rescue..

But it's an Impreza. OP would be better off selling and buying an 01 WRX if he has $10k.

Here's a supercharger kit ready to go. Will probably sell for under $2K:
