Oh, minor note, I'm also going through and patching up my atrocious image linking work. Apologies for the PC users when the images take up your entire screen hahahaha.

After getting a tune done by Matt McLeod and having a bunch of auto junk deleted, it runs beautifully. We had a minor hiccup with the IACV being sticky and still have an O2 code, but otherwise..

Ooooo tell me more, tell me moarrr!

Matt can tune these EZ30D ECU now? I've been going through all the wiring diagrams you provided today with a mate to see if we can wire in as much stuff to the old TCU etc to keep everything happy like the ABS, think I need to locate a non VCD cruise control unit to get that working, but if Matt can make the car happy to drive without the TCU, I'll just do what you did and bridge a couple wires/ delete TCU!

Haha, he sure can! So I've been told, the man has been able to tune these for a while now. It's been flashed now (just with an email tune) and drivability is insane. Better than I predicted. Somewhat.. arousing.  ;)  Now, the problem isn't within the wiring, it's the TCU itself. I started the project with intentions to keep the TCU, but the thing is, it's a transmission computer so inputs and outputs are all variable by a large margin, and it all talks to the ECU. It would just throw codes and issues that would be more and more difficult to diagnose.

For ABS, I think I'll try a manual ABS module. I read a forum thread in the US of someone manual swapping a H6 Outback, and all they did was swap the module. I'm hoping that's the same deal here. Cruise control is a small project, but I'm fairly sure you can work around the VDC. Again, I'll be working on that too.

All you need for the abs
Is to find the wire that goes to the tcu
Find the 5v g sensor wire

Cut the auto wire at the abs pump, and join the loom end into the g sensor 5v wire

Is the G sensor wire constant 5v when the car is on?

Yep should be constant 5v

Gonna try this tomorrow, except going to do it slightly different. Gonna chase a +5vdc feed from somewhere under the dash (maybe one of the TCU plugs if I'm lucky) and cut it, and join it to the ABS wire (which I've discovered to be Pin 22 on the grey connector - will test continuity to the pump to check first) and see how we go! Wiring magic stuffs again! xD

Yeah sounds like it should work

I assume the tcu tells the abs pump/module that the car is in gear or something like that

The only downside to this mod is I believe when you activate the abs the 5v signal must drop away because it triggers my abs light back on, but a simple ign cycle fixes it.
But how often do you lock the wheels really, not really an issue for me.

So, it's been an intense week with family and stuff but it's basically done.

She's back on the hoist to fix up the header work (the cats sat waaaaayyyyyy too low) and give them a nice wrap job.

But, otherwise, we still have the engine light because I need to buy an O2 sensor and that's it. She's been out for a drive and everything! It is a totally different car to drive.

Enjoy numerous images.

Awesome Job Tim!

Its such a shame Subaru didn't make this combination from factory!

I'm in the process of doing this same thing. I've got the car running and driving great, but I can't figure out how to get the VSS to work properly. Do you have any photos or a more detailed description on where to wire the power and signal wires into?
I need to get this down before I can get it registered, and its the last thing on my list.

And did you have any trouble getting it rego'd?
Thanks in advance!

Riley

The build is looking good, Tim.

Like Riley, i am also doing something similar, but i am putting the EZ30 into an EJ25 manual Outback. Was actually using your build as a bit of a guide, but i have run into an issue where the dash cluster won't power off once the key is turned off and removed. Everything sits there as if it is still in the ON position.

I'm also here to pick your brains a bit about any issues you had, that way i can reference with mine.

Cheers,

Matt

Hey Riley, I think you may have fixed that issue already, but I used some of the old inhibitor harness wiring, which I tested to find 5v+ then I just grounded to chassis.

Hey Matt, sounds like you may have a short, did you alter any of your EZ30 dash harness? That's an odd issue to have!

Feel free to ask away if you haven't found me elsewhere lol :P
