G'day all,
Got a situation with my sister's Gen3 RX liberty. It's producing a knocking sound that's coming from the cam belt tensioner. It seems to go away after a short drive. My sister has reported that it was louder this morning than it has been before.
I've looked at the tensioner with the engine running - it's not bouncing on the belt or anything that I can physically see.
So where is the noise from exactly? The bearing in the tensioner?
Now that the noise is apparently louder, I'm concerned about the four hundredish k's it's got to do before I can check it out.
I'm probably going to get a second hand part to replace it with - we simply can't afford a new unit. Is there anything I should look out for or is there a test I can do in the parts yard on the second hand tensioner before I buy it?
Cheers
Bennie

Thanks Simon, issue would be getting it before the weekend :/
I've thought about swapping the old tensioner setup from my EJ'd L series onto the Liberty (including the matching backing plate to make it work) and putting this knocking tensioner on the L to see what it does - if it lets go there's no worries as my EJ22 is the set non interference one.
Duncan, that's definitely the noise. I diagnosed ours with a stethoscope But it wasn't bouncing the belt like that one in the video!
So it seems that worst case scenario the belt could skip a few teeth and not run properly before valves kiss the piston?
Anyone had one go completely and if so what was the end result?
Thanks for your replies already, keep them coming pls!
Cheers
