Hey all,

im not too great with these types of mechanical issues so I just wanted to confirm or correct my worries lol

I own a 04 2.5rs with about 135ks and recently i've noticed oil leaking from my car. When I looked under the car I found oil stains leaking from the external part of where the head gasket would be... pretty sure, check photos below

also I noticed a leak from my steering rack while under the car..

How much would repairs for these cost? I don't have loads of money but i do want to keep this car running. If anyone could help me out here I would really appreciate it

Cheers

Josh

Repairs would be around $1800. If it's a head gasket.

Check to make sure it's not just a leaking valve cover gasket.

If your EJ25 is the same, we had the same on our 2000RX liberty that's in the family.

Two options:

1) put up with the leaking/weeping and clean the area regularly

2) or spend some coin to get it fixed. Expensive oil leak

We fixed ours for a few hundred as it was going for a Road Worthy Certificate and oil leaks are a no no.

If you know what you're doing/can spin a spanner and read a workshop manual you can keep costs down easily. If not then I'd recommend monitoring it or get a mechanic to do the work for you. Also a good time to replace cambelt and components, rear main seal, water pump and front oil seals. Adds $$$s to the cost but if you've got the engine out and the work needs to be done you might as well square it away in one hit with full easy access ;)

Certainly not the headgasket

Got any suggestions?

Being EJ25, my experience has been the head gasket - I didn't believe it at first either.

New HGs for an oil leak (first one EVER) and now no oil leak.

I think the OP would benefit from more info on where you think this leak is coming from so that they can investigate it.

The only other thing I can think of is cam seal if it wasn't done with the belt kit at 100k km service interval.

Cheers

Also might be worth checking that the oil filter is on tight.

Before you speculate, degrease the entire area and find where the leak comes from.

Probably just ps fluid.
