Hi all my 2005 wrx has a steering issue where when the key isnt in the ignition and the steering lock is on the steering still spins all the way around and the wheels dont move. Any help would be great thanks.

Have you somehow sheared the column off? Cos thats the only way i can think you could turn the wheel without it turning the wheels

Well yes cos then theres no connection between the wheels and the steering lol. Does the car work normally otherwise?

If you push it with out it running do the wheels turn??

This is some kind of joke right?

I've not heard of a steering lock that disconnects the steering wheel from the steering rack...

If it's not a joke, can you provide more specific details of what happens?

Cheers

What does the clock spring have to do with steering not working?

Please don't drive this car until its sorted  - it sounds like something is slipping (either the wheel on the shaft, or the spline and clamp join at the universal joint) and provides  enough friction to work ok when power steering is on, or the steering lock is not engaged.

If ign barrel was replaced - whats the bet the car was nicked at some point and they tried breaking the lock by forcing the wheel?  Hence the busted bits.

The steering works fine its when its full locked to the left or right the steering wheel it self keeps turning or if the steering lock is engaged the steering wheel keeps turning

if the steering wheel turns independently of the wheels at any point, the steering is most definitely not fine.
