I've been doing some research on insurance quotes for a hawkeye wrx and the best quote I have found is $1687 annually for full comprehensive plus $850 excess if I crash. Does this seem right? What do you guys pay? Thank you!

Yeah, you under 25? Live in a neighbourhood with high car theft, prangs etc? That isn't a crazy price for a young bloke in a regularly crashed car. I am over 25 with rating 1 since 17 and still needed wife to be primary driver to bring my premium under $2000 for my 86. Even my Foz was still $1200p.a.

Welcome to corporate greed my friend.

It is the norm based on exactly what Rosberg mentioned above, as well as postcode, driving history, whether or not you have had any claims before, how long you have been licenced to drive, etc. As much as they want you to get insurance, insurance companies do have to generate income too. It's a business after all.

Insurance is a rip off but when you need it, you'll always be ahead.

I can give you a quote for both Allianz and Toyota Insurance (even for non-Toyota vehicles) if you would like to compare.

Yeah was just a shock to me because my non turbo hawkeye is only a bit over $400 (insurance is in my parent's name). Looks like I'll be keeping my subie for a while, delivery boy wage life 🤙

Mine aren't far off when I move next year to the property we bought. I am paying about $140 per month and if I stay with NRMA the premium will be about the $90 per month mark. It trips me out how much of a difference there is in only 20-30 minutes between suburbs.

I'm 31 and still paying about $1200p/a with Shannons, MY04 Liberty GT. In a couple of years I'd have paid the value of the car in premiums alone.

It's pretty outrageous, considering I have never made claim.

I paid on average $900 per year with AAMI for my Liberty B4 at 23. It creeped up each year. Then I moved suburbs and it jumped to $1500, I paid the difference. So I changed insurers to NRMA the next renewal, which brought it back down to $850. I'm still with NRMA and pay roughly $850 for my late model WRX at 29. My excess was around $1000 under 25, but now at 29 its $600.

For your price bracket you might be able to swing a Liberty GT? Throw them into the online quotes, see what comes up. Generally they avoid the dickhead tax.

Yup, it's a rort. The 86/BRZ is laughable in regards to insurance, after the Corolla and Camry it must the most crashed vehicle in Aus, I couldn't believe the quotes I was given.

But yours should be less now anyway, what is the value, like $5k?

It creeped up each year.

always shop around on renewal time. Always.

The bastards typically raise it in increments hoping you'll just be lazy and stay with them.

I did some quote surfing last night. Woolworths actually came in significantly cheaper than anyone else at just under $900pa.

Might ring Shannons and see if they can match it, if not, I'll switch.

Jimbo, beware of full on budget insurances as they are cheap for a reason. Insurers like Budget Direct are poor and Coles for example are cheap at the beginning and go up as you go. They offer cheap at the beginning to suck you in.

Rosberg, send me your details to see if I can help out with your quote.

Gaz, do you mind sending through the pds?

Sure thing. I'll get it tomorrow. Send me your email in a private message.
