Hi all,

Recently joined the club.

A bit of background. I used to own a WRX MY05 model which was a fantastic vehicle but unfortunately had to sell.

I have recently caught the bug and am back on the market for a WRX.

I do have a couple of questions and hoping fellow members can help me out.

Which is the best model to buy? I am leaning towards the MY05, MY06 and MY09 versions.

I am looking at spending no more than about 18k.

It will be my daily driver, although i catch the train for work and wouldn't be doing too many kms during the week.

Any advice and tips will be appreciated.

Thank you.

For that money you could get a MY01 to MY04 STi. Maybe even an MY05 with some KMS on it.

Heck of a lot more gear onboard than a WRX of any vintage

Brembo brakes, bigger diff and driveshafts, very strong 6 speed gearbox, much stronger engine, bigger turbo, variable valve timing, nicer interior.

Basically everything is better on an STi

Thank you. That clears things up. The search begins.

Buy mine, get $4k in change, happy to sell it for cheaper than advertised to someone that will take care of it.

For just a little more you could get a 2011 WRX.

That 1 owner WRX hatch would be my first choice if I was in the market.

Any STi you get under $20k will be high kms and on its 4th owner.

Can add the rest of the STi fruit later. Plus a hatch means you won't be forced to sell when you need/want more room.

Dont need to, GD 5MT is solid if you drive with mechanical sympathy.  5MT is faster in the 1/4 mile due to less shifting.

I would consider it, if I were looking at a hatch. Thanks, though.

If you haven't found a car yet, my son is selling his 2005 wrx wrp10. Only 63,000 original kms, 2nd owner, has a few mods.
Fully service history.
