Any helpful tips on how to check if your fuel gauge has broken?

I've only just noticed it today that the amount of driving I've done has had no damage to the fuel gauge. Was only filled up just over half way on monday and it's stuck at just under half way..

Anyways, the fuel gauge now doesn't drop down to empty when the cars turned off completely (like it should do). Just that alone has risen my suspicion on if my fuel gauge is actually broken or not?

Regards, Craig

My gauge doesnt move when i turn the car off either, never has.

What sort of driving have you done lately? High way?

Only rest test is to fill it right up and compare the lt you put in..

No its only been like short 15-20 minute drives. So do you have a gen3 also? I think I have recalled my gauge dropping whenever the cars fully turned off (like how I would say all cars do) , and then when put back onto ignition all the gauges go up again (well the temperature moves and so should the fuel gauge).

Subaru’s typically display the fuel level regardless of ignition on or not. I’ll have to ask my sister to see if her Gen3 (Basil) shows the fuel level with ignition off.

Can confirm that the fuel gauge doesn't drop back to empty with the power/key is removed.

What state / area are you in ??

I have a copy of the Subaru gen3 service manual if you need it.
