Next project in line was the exhaust.

Wasn't looking forward to the dump pipe as it looked pretty tight up in there.

Turns out it wasn't too hard. Only modification required was trimming the heat shield back to fit around the dump pipe.

Since i was digging around the front end now, probably best to address some oil leaks.

From what I could see, It looked like the cam cover seals needing replacing.

After removing the cam covers, I was happy to see it was nice and clean in there.

Both sides done.

I have also replaced all the PCV hoses, the red alternator cap (as it had been chewed on by a rat at some stage) and a few other odds and ends.

A picture of some parts I remembered to take a picture of.

Attached File  PCV.jpg   761.58KB   1 downloads

I'm currently chasing an engine light issue, which has revealed 2 fault codes:

P0508 - idle control system circuit low

P1308 - Solenoid valve signal 2 circuit malfunction

Pretty sure i have sorted the first issue out, looks like the rat had a bit of a chew at some wiring.

So far this is the only work I havent done myself, I'm not to keen on wiring.

Attached File  Wiring.jpg   785.03KB   1 downloads

Attached File  Wiring 4.jpg   693.17KB   1 downloads

The other issue (P1308) from what i can gather is related to the AVCS (Active Valve Control System)

Apparently some inline filters in the oil actuated system fail, and a dealer bulletin I found online just recomends removing these filters and putting it back together as the correct fix.

So out they come. I have yet to clear the codes to see if this has worked.

They don't look damaged or clogged, we'll see what happens.

Wheels.

As much as i like the factory GDB alloys, these had seen better days, evidence of cracks being repaired on 3 of the wheels, and a new crack forming on the other.

Also mismatching tyres resulted in a car that just went sideways in the wet anytime you turned the wheel.

Here they are just after their first detail.

I found these locally, great price, and i didn't have to pay freight.

Speedline Corsa Super Reg

These are actually a Toyota spec wheel, the centre bore was increased to suit Subaru, and have a nice offset. They are a bit of a rare spec actually.

17x8 +35 (factory wheel 17 x 7.5 +53)

I wanted to repaint these and get rid of the gutter rash

Out with the file and some sand paper

Satisfied with how the gutter rash repair went, on to some painting.

I really should have got them powder coated, maybe one day when they're all chipped.

Being a STI, naturally i had to go with gold.

I also restored the centre caps, and sent Boxerbeauty some dimensions of the stickers so he could reproduce them for me.

In regards to tyres, I went with the ever popular Bridgestone RE003's.

The car is a daily driver, the price was good (4 for 3 deal) and I had them on my RS and they did the job.

Due to the lower offset, some guard rolling is required on the rear, the front will be fine.

Ride height took a bit of fine tuning, and I also wanted to do a bit of an alignment so everything was pointing in the right direction. Having never done this, a bit of online research required to work out how to do a string alignment.

As you can see by the dust, it has been sitting in the shed or a while (approx 3 monthsto get all this done)

Before I show the glamour shots on its new wheels sitting pretty, there's few other things little things to add that I forgot to add.

Another Yahoo Auctions purchase, a Titanium STI strut brace was found nice and cheap.

The U-brace was also repainted before going back in with all the whiteline spacers.

I also removed the large inner guard baffle from the air intake to hopefully get a bit more intake noise.

Bit of cut and shut.

ok - my semi just became a full on boner with those speedlines.

The U-brace is interesting - never knew they had those.

That pretty much brings it upto date.

Next job is to fit these, STI Group N engine, transmission and Pitch stop mounts

I also have a subtle front lip spoiler coming and a COTO Sports Blow off valve.

Hot damn lad! That is bloody unreal! How'd you get the underside so damn clean? I hit mine with brake cleaner and it didn't work overly well...

Cheers,
Ben

Thanks Ben.

It was a lot of work, but started with the high pressure wash to get rid of the bulk.

Then used either the Supercheap cans of degreaser, or just a generic cheap spray and wipe from the supermarket, agitation with either a scrubbing brush, scourer or just a rag and then pressure wash again, and wipe down with rags.

I basically did this a couple of times, each time being a bit more detailed than the last.

Obviously labour intensive, but its one of things that costs you nothing (except time).

So good! Did you have the thought of clear coating or raptor lining the underside of the STi while everything was clean and bits removed?

Very tidy work Kong! Whats the long term plan for the paint - respray at some stage?

Cheers

Thanks Bennie,

I did think about refinishing the underside, but it cleaned up pretty well, and i liked the factory finish.

Paint wise, nothing planned in the immediate future. I don't mind all the imperfections, gives the car a bit of history.

Patina is all the rage at the moment isn't it?

My Prodrive replica front lip arrived yesterday. I was surprized with the quality, really nice. Ultrex.

Fitted it up last night, a few minor tweaks still required, but overall great result.
