bump...??? i want to get someone reputable to look at my car and tell my why it's running rich and sounds like arse... i've had different opinions from a blown O2 sensor to a screwy temp sensor... anyone know where i can get an O2 sensor on the cheap... and if using a wideband would make any difference on an N/A...??

Check your plugs/leads and then check for codes. Have you recent your ECU and cleaned your MAF since installing the "CAI"?

doesn't feel deficient in power...

why would she not be breathing right???

ok... here are the symptoms...

420km from 60l of petrol (from a 2.2 that's fcuking pathetic)
popping and backfiring under 2k when there is deceleration load on the engine.
car has a farty sound to the exhaust (which i've been told is due to the running rich)
leaving lots of soot on the rear bumper
smells rich as

It's not getting enough oxygen through the engine, so it's not burning the fuel efficiently.

You're CAI might not be as efficient as it could be? Air filter might be blocked? Pipe work mght be blocked?

Mass Air Flow sensor might be sticky.

You're ecu might be out of whack after the install of your exhaust and CAI. Try a ECU reset first of all. It's FREE!

incase my wierd backwards grammar doesn't make sense, that is me saying that i've reset the f**king thing so many times i've lost count...

it doesn't change anything....

the CAI pipe isn't blocked and the pod is new and (i was told) unoiled...

how to fix the MAF please...???

if you think that's the problem...

on a side note, i'll swap back to stock intake this weekend to see if that makes a difference... although i'll be bummed if it does... not that there is really that much change in the engine with a CAI...

Soooooprawk knows how to service the MAF... He'll respond son enough if he thinks you're worthy.

Good idea about swapping back to the stock piping to check if that's the issue...

Christ. Get a service done, put some UEC through her, new plugs, clean your AFM with contact cleaner. No point in umming and erring about it, there is no certain thing that causes these issues, you've got to get about fixing them up and eliminate the possible causes.

YEAH! I couldn't hack it if I was driving around in my car knowing that there was something wrong with it. If it was my car and something was wrong with it, I would make sure that it was fixed immediately.

i just coughed up $950 for the 200k km service last week... so it has new plugs and has had UEC put through it...

the only thing left is the AFM...

and i hate it that there is something wrong with my car... i really do...

i just don't have monies to throw at it at the moment...

$20 for some electrical contact cleaner. That will fix your AFM. Also try cleaning your O2 sensor, otherwise it may well be f*cked. Bad economy can be because of a f*cked O2 sensor. Running rich at idle wont be due to an O2 sensor. Backfiring on over run is always going to happen, particularly when you give the car a quick squirt. Mine sounds god damned anti-lag when it gets hot. Was that 420km/tank till it ran dry or until the fuel gauge said empty? When the guage says empty you have around 20ltrs left, give or take. Check the intake for vacuum leaks, this can also account for it running rich and using fuel. You may also want to service the IACV. After all that, reset the ECU. On a side note, loose the demanding/Spoilt b*tch attitude. People are trying to help you so don't throw it in their face by saying "I think i said that already.". You go looking for an apprenticeship with that mind set and you'll end up with a split lip and no job.

Pauly, I don't think he was meaning to be rude.. Just stating that he thought he mentioned that he had a major service on his car earlier.

Don't worry Tristan, Paul's just upset that you've taken away his SoOpRaWk crown. ;) :D

haha... i didn't mean it like that...

but i'm sorry paully... must be the upper north shore private school boy coming out in me...

it was a long time ago... but it did happen... ;)

thanks for the pointers mate... i'll look into it...

how hard is it to get the O2 sensor out??

and will contact cleaner clean it... and where can i get decent contact cleaner...??

sorry for the 11ty questions... and thanks again for ur help...

When the guage says empty you have around 20ltrs left, give or take.

and that's when i run it down to about 4 litres... (as in i fill it to the top with about 56 litres)... i've got it sort of down to an art now.... i know how many km (roughly) i have left when the light comes on...

i don't push it though...

Its not hard to get the O2 sensor out. Its in the exhaust, in the catalytic converter. Contact cleaner will clean it. You can buy it from d**k smiths(why is d-ick censored? It's a blokes name ffs.). Or any other electronics retailer in existence. It is electronic contact cleaner after all.... Using your schooling as an excuse to be a c*nt is not an excuse at all. I'd still smack you in the mouth if you spoke to me that way.
