Hello All, Just received a NICE set of rims, shot straight down to the tyre shop to get sorted. was looking at 235/40/18 on (white) STI ENKEI RIMS. They didnt clear, just touching against yellow part of the spring. I was sure these fitted fine?? 18x7.5 is stamped on back of rim. Any help? ideas? Can they be fitted, what must i upgrade/do? Have spoken with another B4 owner on another forum who has them on his ride? Thanks all in advance

What is touching the spring? The rim or the tyre?

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

The tyre was touching the spring (big yellow bit attached to spring) Even if fitting smaller profile tyre the shop said no go..

pretty sure it'd just be the tyre Jason. 235 is a pretty wide tyre for 7.5. normally people run 225's with 17's

sorry i meant 7.5" wide. the rim diameter isn't your problem. It'd be the offset and possibly tyre width

Pretty sure Joe has those same rims on his B4 and Alex has them on his gen 2 GTB so surprising to hear they don't fit??

I guess you really only have a few options...

Get coilovers (the springs have a much smaller diameter and no lower hat to sit), use spacers or get new rims. How much are they scrubbing by?? is the difference small enough to be solved by going for 225/40/18?

i've got some spaces f/s if you decide to go down that path

Hi, Neg on the spacers. 225's are skinny as all buggery, I wouldn't be rocking less than 245's if I could help it. Cheers, Nik

yeah i'd normally just run a 235 on a 7.5. Obviously you can see how much of a difference that makes though between 225 and 245 especially as i bet it's only a few mm that makes the difference between scrubbing and close clearance

May be keen for those spacers AEK -i didnt have much room spare the 235's little rubber nodule bits where pressed against the spring.
What is the cheapest option?.. the guys at the shop were considering spacers but couldnt fit any due to it being a subie.
Should i go and try a 225?
All else fails i guess i will have to re-sell and buy new ones.
Heaps surprised they dont fit however its only a little larger than stock.

Also the 17" 5 spokes looked good on the wifes impreza

I'd try 225's first. if that doesn't work then consider your options. the spacers are 5mm but you should get that extra clearance anyway if you go down to 225's

Hi, Aren't 225s a serious step down in grip from a 245? Seems like a prohibitive factor to me. Cheers, Nik

I'm currently running 225/40/18 on a set of 18x7 CS9 rims without any scrubbing on the In side or outside of the wheels if that helps.

i'm running 235/40/18 on +44 8.5" wide. its quite a tight fit but looks tops. you will want to get 225's. it might not sound like a big difference but it is... 225 is sort of higher limit for a liberty they don't have the guardwork to get a wider wheel hence wider tyre in there...

They would be (on sealed roads), but if you take into account the amount of grip these things have, even on pissy little 215 tyres, I wouldn't be worried.
