Don't go to Pulse.
I am surprised Josh speaks highly of them, I am confident you can do a LOT better than Pulse.
Old mate ripoff charges like a wounded bull now, may have been cheap to start with to pull some customers from his mate Brett Middleton, but since then prices have gone up.
My mate got an exhaust fitted to his B4 (slight adjustments required), plus a re-tune and it was close to $3k. I almost died.
I can get the receipts for you if you like to give you a good idea, I think he charges $1500 or $1600 to retune the factory ECU first time, and each tune after (or if the car is already tuned - $600) - I have no idea how they decide if it is tuned or not - maybe you could just adjust one thing on your ECU yourself, and tell him it's tuned and get the cheaper rate??
I'd imagine first tune with Pulse is $1500 or $1600, and each subsequent is $600 or whatever the price is.
My mate went there because he needed someone to retune the factory ECU, as you do. But, as I said, confident that you can do better. $1500 for a map to be saved on the ECU is a bit rich. Another thing that really stood out for me is their 'enthusiasm' to "fix" and "replace" things on the car that are apparently faulty or in need or repairs. Those should see another $300 being added to your invoice as well - so if you do decide to go there, be wary of that and make sure they quote you before the work commences. That was another contributing factor as to why Daniel's invoice was so high when he went there with the B4.
Shane should be able to provide you with more info, there was a guy on Liberty ASN that did tuning from some Island place, he just basically emailed you the maps and got you to drive and do data logging and send it back to him.... I remember Paul (twinturbosubaru) looking in to it and the price was pretty good.
Have to catch up soon !

There is also the fact that, 22 years later, they are still cruising around and still in great condition, and still holding more value than 90% of thew cars released 15 years after them!
Go find a DECENT VL calais Turbo for under 12k... and the car first made it to the market in 1986! yiu can buy a VT Calais V8 for about 5k, or a 6 cylinder for 2500

there is also the fact that it's a great looking car powered by a 3.0L japanese 6 cylinder turbo thet can be thrown in the 12 second barrier with 50 cents worth of mods.

yeah they are probably pretty good car, but the majority of them have been modified with awful candy coloured paint and chrome rims. They are very cheap for a turbo car too. If you do get one, make sure you get some Jim Beam floor mats

How you finding it so far?
I picked up on 08 manual wagon GT a few weeks ago, loving it.
Looking back the B4 was a car full of headaches on the Aus tune, it drove and handled great when it all worked properly but in my case it didn't usually work properly.
It's great having only 1 turbo and best of all no ping, even in 40 degree heat
If anyone is thinking of an upgrade, save up your pennys and do it!

Mate i totally and completely agree with you, i always clench my teeth when I accelerate in the 30 degree weather we are having here, waiting for that dreaded ping.. but NOPE! not even once has she pinged on me (knock on wood), The B4 was never meant to come here, and they shouldve left it at that..
The one thing I notice with the GT is the exhaust fumes when the car is cold are sooooo sweet with the smell of fuel, you can tell it's been richened up severely...

Get rid of that stock suspension. the GT should have had Bilstein's in the first place

I am actually not surprised by that quote dude for an exhaust on a B4+ tune etc.My mate got an exhaust fitted to his B4 (slight adjustments required), plus a re-tune and it was close to $3k. I almost died.
Cheapest quote I have ever had for an exhaust system was Liverpool exhaust, they would now do one up out of mild steel for about $1700.
MRT wanted bout $3200 for a full B4 exhaust.
Yeah he does charge about $1600 for the retune on the B4's but again I haven't seen it cheaper, and I got a good result - its actually tuned on the dyno and shit and he spends a good 3 -4 hours doing it, not just off the shelf like MRT do and charge more for.

MRT wanted bout $3200 for a full B4 exhaust.
My exhaust was from S&J (who get it from MRT).
I've seen a receipt in the car for about that much.
The previous owner put it on, what an idiot.

And so is his car.
In this country, you gotta make the money first.
Then when you get the money, you get the power.
Then when you get the power, then you get the women.

those prices from pulse seam.reasonable. Most tbe are about 1200-1600 for stainless, especially with twin dumps, as for the tune, it it ecu tek? As you have to pay for the licence each time to use the software. $600 for a retune isnt too bad either, typical sydney tuner prices. Most workshops here in act charge $120 per hour labour, so a tune takes a few if your really having a go.

Nah he doesn't use EcuTek.
Find a stainless steel TBE for the B4 for as cheap as $1600 and I will marry you
