His guys I am wanting to lower my car and of course imporve its handling. I was wondering what is the best option between coil overs and lowering springs. The only difference i really know is that coil overs are adjustable where as lowering springs are not. Also the fact that the coilovers are **** loads more expensive.

I have gotten some quotes for coilovers and one was about 1800, and the other was 2300. I have goten one quote for lowering king springs for 590 (prices are for supply and fit)

I have a white subaru impreza R MY11 you can see pics in my other thread on wheels and tyres.

what are your guys thoughts??

Cheers

Set of STI struts and Springs would be better than a cheap set of Coilovers.

also a set of STI struts should be able to be picked up pretty cheap on the forums.

find out what compatibility is like with the older models.. might work out to be a better option for you.

Coil overs is total overkill in your instance then. If you were contemplating motorsport, then coilovers would be a viable option.

Go a set of springs.

No need for struts, especially second hand ones, when you're rolling in a MY11, and your struts are literally brand new.

What brand of springs were you quoted?

Cheers for the advice... the quote was from http://www.wholesalesuspension.com.au/ and said

"We have 2 different heights available in lowered King Springs to suit your Impreza, either ‘low’ or ‘super low’. We are more than happy if you drive your car down to us, for us to measure the two different heights here and show you the difference.

Pricing for a supply and fit of 4x King Springs, and a laser wheel alignment is $590 drive-in drive-out. This price is the same whether you’re after low or superlow"

I'd be doing this if I were you.

King springs is pretty good for entry level suspension modifications

If it's an everyday car.

Just go lowered springs, you will get sick of the harsh ride of coilovers.

It depends what spring rates the coilovers have - my Tein Flex are 6kg all round, and I think they are soft, saving up for 8's and 10's.
BC BR coilovers are $1300 shipped from JustJap and the spring rates look spot on to me;

Can you see which way I'm trying to push you?

Just FYI. Riding on kings could make the ride abit more harsh over stock.

any springs other than stock will be harsher. this goes for coilovers too obviously.

i'd steer clear from budget coilovers. service costs can equal the price of the coilovers from what i've seen

Hey guys been doing some research and found that sway bars would be a better option to invest in rather than lowering springs, as like any suby owner I love smashing corners and want to limit the body roll and increase handling.

What are your thoughts on it?

I don’t know too much about them apart from what they do.

Would I need both front and rear, or can I get away with just one, and does anyone know a good place in Sydney area where I can buy some and get them installed?

Ultimately both lowering and sway bars and all your bushes are your best way to increase handling... Also an ALK or caster kit will help your turn in...

All comes down to how much you wanna spend...

wholesale suspension also sell all the whiteline gear...

Im currently running BC Coil Overs and whiteline sway bars. If i turn the dampner settings to soft, the car rides extremely smooth. However, if i turn them to hard it corners like an animal but of course its then very bumpy.

Match the damper and spring rates and the ride will be fairly good. I would never recommend using standard rate dampers with different springs. Never works well.
