Most of you are going to say i told you so, Blah Blah....

But this is continued from my topic of BOOST ISSUES...

Car went in for a service at subaru and for them to check out the problems which ive been having.

To cut a long story short the system they connected the car with, came up with two error codes..

- One being a cam shaft sensor
- Second one being air flow sensor

To erase the problems they said i will need to replace the sensors. Cam shaft sensor roughly $700 and the other $300. Plus the service im looking close to $1500....

Is it worth replacing these sensors or leaving it and getting it tuned professionally and see if that helps?

My B4 has never been tuned too.

Try cleaning the sensors first, you might get lucky and they might just be dirty. Also trace the cables from the sensor to the connector and make sure the insulators aren't cracked.

DUDE WTF!!! $700 for a cam angle sensor??? FAR OUT!

ill sell you one for 10% of that lol

Firstly the Cam angle sensor is easy enough to get to if you know how.. 2nd WTF $700!!!

as for AFM... what color sticker is yours? i would give it a good clean by spraying it liberally with contact cleaner.
should be able to pick up a 2nd handy for under $100 but try cleaning it first and re-setting codes..

$700!!!!!!

I'd say the $700 was for the AFM and $300 for the cam sensor. I remember being quoted around that much in the past

still $300 for a cam sensor!!!

and i thought the dealer sold AFM's for more like $350 not $700...

EDIT: it appears the AFM is indeed much more expensive.. but having a quick look around just then.. you can get a AFM to suit 2nd hand for under $200 easy
some guys are using US afm's and they seem to be working fine.. brand new from US like under $300 shipped.

I would get a 2nd opinion mate, try Ross at Cromwell auto in Burwood if you can.
Millicent st just behind the Audi Dealer and Reece plumbing store on Burwood Hwy
he's a top bloke and has never messed me around, knows his suby's too but not a "Performance" workshop.

Find some second hand ones, swap them out and see what happens, if it fixed the problem then great, keep second hand ones or buy new ones.

They should be easy to find second hand, you need the code and or color sticker on the AFM to know the right one.

As Aaron mentioned, the afm is just behind the airbox at the start of the intake pipe. Its easy to locate is it has electrical wires coming out of it. Use some sensor/contact cleaner on it and see if that improves things (google “cleaning subaru MAF/AFM” and you can get step by step instructions).

Doesn’t a cam position sensor cost around or under $100?

No drama - photobucket iphone app is heaps handy.
You should be able to trace the cam sensor cable back to a connector under the throttle body. Try and remove it completely to check for insulator cracks, if there is any just wrap it in a decent layer of electrical tape and that should sort it.

Just bought some crc MAF cleaner....

Took the MAF off and cleaned all the inside outside etc....

Reset the ecu and the car peaks boost normally, straight away after cleaning it. :)SMILES

I connected the two black plugs and it is still reading a error for a fuel injector though. Ive checked all injectors and put injector cleaner in the fuel and cant seem to find anything else wrong.

JUST ALSO, WHAT FUEL ARE PEOPLE PUTTING IN THE CAR?

i second that motion.

An error code will still show up in the ECU regardless if its been rectified or not. The error is stored until the ECU is reset.

To reset, connect your black diagnostic plugs and the set of green ones, go for a short drive until the CEL flashes consistantly, if it still displays the code on the CEL during the process, its still fugged.
