Just though i'd start a thread for those of us who fish. Who claims to have caught the the largest and who caught what where. All "you should have been here yesterday" stories are encouraged :sarcastic:

share tips, hot spots and techniques blah blah etc etc.

My favorite weekend spot. Narrabeen lake. Plenty of spots around the lake to get to by foot or if you have a tinny then a trip up the river, out to one of the islands or just sitting in the channel can pay dividends. Black fish, bream, Estuary Perch, Flathead, Mullet, Tailor, Trevally, Whiting and Toad fish are plentiful.

We hit up Balmoral Beach on weeknights after work. Either the north rocks or off the beach in front of the pavilion. Yellowfin Bream, Flathead, Tailor, Sand Whiting, Silver Trevally, Squid and Australian Salmon found here.

We hired a boat a couple of weeks ago and had a punt around Sydney Harbor. I didn't catch a single thing except for a tiny snapper that spat the lure just as i was about to bring it on board.

Here are a couple of site with good info for spots and tips for fishing around Sydney:

Fishin is awesome, when ya take some coldies and ****.

Generally go out on a mates boat, and put around pittwater, sit in the heads and drop some fsck off weights down.
Keen as to go local though.

Haha.

Best catch, 40kg spanish mackerel 2 days sail from Darwin. There's a whole area up there thats just full of fish. We caught about 7 of them that size. A few bull sharks and a barracuda.

Best fishing is when you get way out there in the big blue.

Ah I don't have any pics of that day sorry man, besides we were 'at work' when this happened. And no, we don't shoot at the fish alot, they were all caught by grenade reel.

But yeah charter a deep sea cruise for the day, pretty affordable for say 4-6 dudes, you have some oright spots near Sydney. Down off Melbourne is pretty sick as well, near Skull rock. Except you got White Pointers and the like. Cairns was dissapointing, more likely to catch a Croc. Jervis Bay is insane, 'cept it's 'illegal'. We just scuba'd up with a spear gun, pretty ninja

Hi Aek,

Great idea mate! Hopefully you can make it over for MDSC and I can take you for a bit of river fishing here in the west. I don't really go off the rocks anymore, prefer the chilled out esky+rod style river fishing instead.

Not really an avid angler, so I don't have any tips/tricks - but I love a day of fishing.

Cheers,
Nik

That sounds tops mate. i'm no angler either, i just like getting out on the lake when the suns out casting a few lines and sinking a couple of cold ones
