why not?

Agreed.
Anything a TMIC will do, the FMIC will do better.

Because a tmic is less hassle to upgrade and works more effectively than people give them credit for.

One of the main arguments of fmic vs tmic is heatsoak. In my experience heatsoak only occurs when idling in traffic which is an on road application where boost usage is minimal. Once moving again, even at only 60kmph the temprature drops very quickly.

imho most people convert to front mount because they can, not because it is necessarily required.

On a side note though... are the libs restricted with airflow due to the scoop size? This could possibly make a difference, hrmmms.

No most people convert to FMIC because it works better.

Thus why EVERY OTHER MANUFACTURE IN THE WORLD USES A FMIC OF SOME FORM OR ANOTHER.
TMIC is cheap, thats it.
Heck even rally cars don't use them.

Agreed that fmic is a better real world oem solution but my argument is that most Subaru drivers convert for the wrong reasons when a tmic will suffice.

As for rally cars, I think we can agree that is a whole different kettle of fish.

Farken LOL @ Soop.
Get them Bullants out of your jocks mate.
However, I completely agree with the FMIC crowd.
My experience is that the hotter it got, especially here in QLD the shittier my 2.5 felt with a TMIC.
I don't get the same off idle bog down in traffic with a FMIC.
If you are cruising around and not stop starting the TMIC will do OK.
What it boils down to IMHO is the fact that intake charge will always be cooler and more consistent with a FMIC.
This, at the end of the day, is a better result for your car.
As Tony Montana would say:
In this country, you gotta make the money first.
Then when you get the money, you get the power.
Then when you get the power, then you get the women.

Heatsoak only in traffic? Come off it mate, try driving hard on a 30 degree day and tell me its the same as any other day?

EVERY car ive had a TMIC on, i wouldnt think twice about fanging it on a hot day, a TMIC in blistering aussie summer heat will break stuff.

The TMIC in its position above the hot engine on a hot day simply is not effective enough as a heat exchanger, thus the car reads higher temps and retards timing and makes it doughy and hard to enjoy. In cold weather, different story, TMIC is fine, but FMIC will always be a better at heat exchange and thermal efficiency. Its simply not debatable from a performance perspective.

Every car ive had a FMIC on i could fang it, day in day out regardless of weather and have consistant performace without worrying about detonation and melting the engine. On some really hot days, with a TMIC i refused to drive it simply cos the TMIC wasnt enough.

ive read the first and last page.
had many lols. so much so that i thought id dig this up :)

Basically from my experience in moving traffic/highway/cruises and at a race track (circuit not drags) and upto 200ish KWatw a top mount is suitable and is the cheapest option.

but hit traffic, slow moving roads and higher killerwasps and the tmic will kill the response, feel and basically turn your turbo into a sluggish shitbox as soon as the engine bay temps rise.

ive gone top mount, to front mount and back again.... there is no comparison to the fmic for a daily driver, especially in the warmer weather.
if you have a pod in your engine bay then the heatsoak from the top mount is exaggerated.

just get the FMIC. It will best suit your application if it's going to be a track ***** :drinks:
