Hey, just wondering if anyone can recommend some good quality tyres that will mostly be used for street driving with track use about once every 2 months. So i want them to still be able to perform under pressure ;)

Rim size 18 x 7.5 48 offset

Budget: Roughly $800

I run kumho ku31s last me about a year, onto my third set now. I think they are a great tyre. Never tracked though. There's also the ku36 which I think is the next step up?? 31s cost me ~$150 a tyre from Tempe tyres

You can't get KU36's in that size I'm pretty sure, well not in 215/35 which I use anyways.
I would recommend KU31's as a choice, I've never used them but I've heard good things. I'm currently using Federal 595's which are about the same price depending where you shop and they are a good tire.

What size tyre are you running at the moment?

Ahhh fair enough :P
You'll definitely fit 215/40's under there, 225/40's might get some scrubbage...not 100% though as I don't own a gen 3!

Ku31's for a daily, for the track use your 16's with some decent semi slicks from tyre rack.

Best of both worlds

I currently use 595RS-Rs on my Riceline. Probably a little too soft for a daily driven car but they perform well right down to canvas!

I used to use 595SSs but I found that after doing track days every month or so the rubber would go "off". It still had plenty of tread but had absolutely no grip, especially in the wet. Fantastic on the street though, in fact I'd consider them for my Liberty if they weren't directional (I want the ability to do proper wheel rotations on the Suby!)

I haven't used them myself, but I have heard good things about Dunlop Direzza Star Specs

Theres two sizes to keep your speedo happy and match the rolling diameter of the 205/50/16's.

215/35/18 or 225/35/18 both see only approx 0.5% difference in the speedo reading either way. Personally Id go for a little more sidewall and footprint and get the 225's.

You should have no rubbing issues on a Gen3 with this size tyre even if lowered. (not crazy low though)

Yeh thanks for the advice, sounds good man. Even if they do rub i can just adjust the coilovers ;)

225/40/18 is the sweetspot, anything narrower than that on the sidewall and you can say goodbye to your wheels :)

KU31's will suit you perfectly. Get the KU36 if you want some uber grip you also get 15k tyre life and noisy as fk tyres.

Sweet, you dont think the 225/35s will be sufficient, im trying to get that flush look but im sure bumping up to 225/40 wouldnt make a huge appearance diference

Again, this won't happen with your wheels.

the second number is the aspect ratio which is a percentage of the first, hence a 225/35/40 will bit 35% off 225 as opposed to 40%

unless you do lots of motorway driving a 40 series is a much safer bet.

flush look comes from the offset of the wheels, tyres play little part

I just had the KU36's.. they lasted me about 20-30k? Very noisy tires but a great dry tire and a pretty good wet tire. From memory the tread wear is rated at 180??

I've just fitted the new KU39 LE Sports, a step up from the 31's but behind the KU 36's with a tread wear of 280 :). So far so good but I've only put about 20km on them lol

*They cost me 220 per tire fitted tho

My KU36's also got very noisy on the Gen2. I wouldnt recommend them for daily duties as the noise just became a pain the arse.

Ive got Zeetum Sport on at the moment. Made by Kuhmo and are a copy of the KU31 pattern. I rate them very highly all round.

If you go a 225/40/18, your speedo will be out by 4.2% and increase the diameter by 25.8mm over the factory spec wheels/tyres which is illegal. Thats why I suggested the 225/35/18's as your speedo is only out by 0.5% and diameter only increases 3.3mm.

NSW rules are the same as Vic, +15mm / -15mm over stock.

Just letting you know. ;)
