This seems to be a common problem for the late model SG Foresters.

Thought I'd start a thread to gather information and discuss the topic as I plan to remove mine before it becomes a very expensive problem!

Morgs, I CBF reading the links.

Is this part of the turbo system or is it a supported OBDII monitored system?

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Cosworth (and others) block off plates + retune (so get rid of the CEL) = win.

Is this part of the turbo system or is it a supported OBDII monitored system?

Pumps air into the manifold at cold start, tricks emissions.
The pumps and valves (each side of the manifold) shit themselves and are ~$1500 for a pump and $700ea for the valves.

Talked to Michael (MSR) about this the other day just out of interest....his words were "yeah theyre known to shit themselves? but who cares? it doesnt hurt anything when it does, just gives a CEL.. and why waste money on fixing something that aint broke? just wait til it dies, than block it off and disable the code in the ecu (as Alex said above)"

He thinks your looking too much into it :)

I guess it means Morgan won't have to shell out the money to fix the issue before he sells the car...? He can pull these bits off before he sells the car... bingo, totally stock car.

That's the reason I figure Morgs was doing it?

Yeah pretty much mate. I'm happy to throw a yellow at this to prevent the inevitable and then when the time comes to sell, I can put it all back together...

it doesnt hurt anything when it does

Interesting. After trying to decipher the multiple threads on the issue, I thought it did cause damage when it went - hence costing between $2500-5000 to fix.

Perhaps that quote was for a new pump + components altogether? Makes more sense.

again, disable the codes. if the pump fails (which is 99% of the time) the valves will stay shut anyway so there is no difference to performance anyway. (it only runs for startup to reduce emissions).

Resurfacing this thread again.

I bought the blanking plates in the link a few posts up and they've sat on the bench at home ever since...

Was driving to work yesterday morning and I got a CEL (+ cruise control light flashing). Spat out the code P2444 (Secondary Air Pump Stuck On). Well surprise surprise!

Cleared the code after work but it appeared again this morning.

Next step is to delete the pump, block off the valves with the blanks I bought, disable the pump system and reflash the ECU so that it's not longer required.

Will keep you updated :)
