Fair enough mate, sounds like you've put plenty of thought into it!
I was going to say for all the effort you might as well go with a BEAMS and get a nice refined motor and 6 speed, but good luck finding one for $500!

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

Believe me, if this motor and box didn't come up cheap, I probs would have gone something different.

I toyed around with the idea of CA18DET, CA18DE, SR20DE, SR20DET, 4AGE, 4AGZE, 4AGTE, 1UZFE, 3SGE, V6 Ecotec motor, 18RG, etc etc, but at the end of the day, the logical decision was the 3RZFE.

Throw in the greens, green peace, unhcr, save the forking children and I've well and truly hit my limit for the number of fuckstains wanting me to sign something or give money. Seriously cubts,  :fork: right off.

I have seen quite a few CA and SR conversions floating around. Not really sure why though, I would have thought for the time and effort building a fairly nuts 4A would be an easier path. But for $500 for the hilux gear, laughing! Especially since the hilux diffs seem to be the choice anyway.

I think the reason behind the CA/SR swaps is that there is very little Toyota motors, that are 1.8 and 2.0L respectivley if you're looking for an increase in capacity over the stocko 1.6L. Sure, you can build an angry 7AGE using a 7AFE bottom end and a 4AGE head, which will give you 1.8L, but you could push 200rwkw out of a CA with relative ease with the amount of cashish it would take.

They also don't have anywhere near as much "on-the-shelf" upgrade options as their Nissan bastard cousins.

Cheers,
Shazza

2.7L in a car that was originally 1.6L?

I don't know if that'll pass engineering Shaz...

What's the actual tare weight of the vehicle?

According to the NSW RTA 2007 VSI (which is probably outdated now), it states for cars under 1100kg, you multiply the original car's weight, and multiply it by three (if you plan on staying NA) to get a total engine displacement figure you can't breach.

eg.

850(kg) x 3 = 2550. no dice.

but if KE70 weighs 910(kg) (not confirmed) x 3 = 2730.

3RZ capacity = 2693cc.

Check yo' rego papers homeboy.

Skating on thin ice me thinks. It'd have to be strictly NA to be roadworthy, but the torque would be cool, as the linear bore and stroke.

I've also read somewhere that recently they've updated the VSI's since 2007.

Rego papers state a tare weight of 910kgs.

910 x 3 = 2730cc (Non Turbo)
910 x 2.5 =2275cc (Turbo)

First thing I checked brother.

Would have to be strictly N/A though, for the reasons you mentioned above Alexwski.

Shazza

G'day Hayden,

http://www.rollaclub...0-steel-wheels/

Bit of an update. I have binned the idea of the Hilux motor. My mate who was going to rip the motor out of his car, has decided not to, so it just isn't cost effective to do the conversion anymore.

Instead, I have purchased a Ca18DET powered S13 Silvia!

Plan is, to swap the engine and gearbox and front half of tail shaft, into the KE. I'm also going to pillage the front seats out of it. Once I have taken all that, along with the loom, and ecu, I will flog the shell off to someone who wants to chuck an RB20 or something in it. Apparently the rear of the car has some damage, so might end up just stripping the rest of it, and taking it to the tip.

I had a crazy idea to try and cut down, and put the whole S13 dash in. I'll measure it up, and see if it can actually be done before I make a decision. I reckon it could fit, but getting it to look good might be another story.

Custom engine mounts and gearbox mount required. Engine mounts can be bought from KaizenGarage pre fabbed. The kits gearbox Xmember is designed for a T50 gearbox, so that is of no use to me.

Apparently from research, the CA gearbox is quite long, and sits the gear shifter back by around 75mm, which intermittently fouls on the handbrake if you hit 2nd gear too hard. I will most likely reposition the handbrake a bit off to the side, or bin it completely, and install a hydraulic handbrake with a vertical lever.

Wiring wise, only about 8 or 9 wires of the loom are actually required for the motor to run, so I'll be getting a wiring diagram and putting the loom on a sever diet. Plans are just to install everything stock, then modify from there. I MAY whack a set of of forgies in while the engine is out and I'm replacing the water pump and timing belt seeings as a kit is rather cheap. I will get a small, black inverted FMIC to sit behind the front grill, with black cooler piping. Exhaust will be completely painted black. I want this looking as stock as possible.

Diff wise, the plan is still to use a JDM T-Series rear, with a LSD. May need to investigate some strengthed axles, as people reckon they snap axles anywhere in the vicinity of 200rwkw when coupled to a 4AGTE.

Will update with some pics of the S13 soonish.

Cheers,
Shazza

No worries man. I only really use it for parts and tech info. There's a heap of old blokes who know what parts fit what, and how to do everything.

Mark,

Will let you know when it becomes available mate.

The lite ace rear end isn't bad, but for what it's worth, you're better of going like an R31 diff instead, as there is much more aftermarket options in terms of an LSD, and they are heaps stronger.

Cheers,
Shazza

Interested in interior trim, rear seats, carpet if its black, handbrake if not being used. The ugly brown stuff I'd rather avoid. After Sunday if Zach picks up my wheels I'll have some spare cash to throw your way, interested in pics.

CA should have plenty of grunt for a KE. Should be awesome when its done.

Shaz will quit smoking when Rendawg loses his virginity.

It was nice knowing you shazza.

200kw in a little KE70 shell is going to be heeeaaaps. Sounds like it'll be a fun conversion!
If the handbrakes a problem just remove it and run a hydraulic one :D

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.
